I have been researching scopes for month since I got my new AR10.  I plan on hunting some with it this season and in my search my main stipulation for my scope is functionality in low light.  Bought too many scopes in past that failed me.  I had originally settled on a Trijicon Accupoint but after spending so much on accessories I am going to have to get a cheaper scope in the interim and wait.  I was going to try a Bushnell 4200 3x9 or a Nikon Primos 3x9.....but now I am wondering if an "illuminated reticle" such as the Mueller Tactical is better.  Do illuminated reticles necessarily equate to better low light performance over the Nikon and Bushnell?

No.  Lighted reticles are no indication of low light performance.

4200 Elite 3x9 should work for ya ..Rainguard & excellent optics ,,heck - you probably won't need to spend more down the road for the Trijicon.

The IR scopes DO help in shaded and dim areas to keep the crosshairs or rectile  aquisition where standard grey ones tend to blend or disappear . I kill alot under heavy canopy situations and extremely early or late and have cranked the IR on for a big advantage in setting the kill mark . Once you have a good one you'll never go back to the old standard . Think of it this way ... it's like having a dead on high powered laser at 50 - 500 yards ... bang  ..... if anyone tells you the grey is'nt ever hard to see or not much slower to acquire ... that's all BS .
