Just picked up a new .338 and am debating one of two scopes
the buchnell 4200 2.5- 10*40
       or
leupold VX3  3.5-10*40

Really like the firefly and the reain guard because i live in northern WI but not sure of the eye relife

I think the optical quality is better on the 4200 then the Leupold.  The firefly and rainguard can be very useful especially in areas where the weather isnt always nice.  If eye relief is an issue, I'd look at the Zeiss Conquest.  It has slightly better optics then the 4200 and it has more eye relief, the optics on the Zeiss beats the Leupold at every level and it costs the same.

By the way.....NICE GUN !!!!

Cutler686:  If the 3200 was giving you a scope kiss in the 300 wby, then I would think that the 4200 which has about the same eye relief on a 338 would not be the best choice.  I know the BOSS system is supposed to take out a lot of recoil but I'd hate to find out it did not take out enough after mounting the scope.

Like I said the Zeiss Conquest is AWSOME.  I put one on my Remington 30.06 and I love the scope.  Its about the clearest scope I have looked through.  You can get one here on at the SWFA store for about $479.00 its about the best buy out there.

I like that going to the store to buy shotgun shells and get a new rifle.  LOL  That is one expensive shotgun load LOL

Good luck and let us know what you choose.

nice rifle and either scope will work great. What base and ring setup are you going to use?
