Just got the wife and kids a  Savage 64F .22 rifle. Looking forward to getting it zeroed, just wish it was tapped for scope mounts instead of clamp on mounts.

That's one of the ones my son was looking at. I liked that one too, but he liked the Marlin 795 a little better for some reason.
I wonder if you'll have trouble with the rings sliding on the dovetail, as we did.
It's kind of funny that some of the Savage bolt action .22s come with Weaver bases installed, but the semi-autos, (which are more prone to ring sliding), do not.
Did yours come with rings and/or scope?

No, it didn't come with anything. Probably the only reason I bought it was a friend asked me to go squirrel hunting on Sunday, and the price was ok if work holds out.

Ah, so you didn't really buy it for the wife and kids after all...

I thought as much.

Seriously though, if you decide to put a scope on it, get some good steel rings that will allow you to tighten the clamps enough to get it to "bite" into the receiver dovetail a little.
That's what we need to do on my son's Marlin, I think.
Does your Savage have a steel or aluminum receiver?

According to the magnet off the fridge, it is a steel receiver. Honestly I am considering a cheap red-dot for this rifle. All opinions welcome.

I have that Weaver on my 22.  Great scope for a 22, and pretty good glass for the price I think.

While a red dot would be kinda neat, I can't imagine not having at least 4X magnification for squirrel hunting, and a 2-7 or 3-9x variable such as the Weaver Wes and Andrew noted above is that much better.
Go with a decent scope on this one, Billy!

Ya I think I am going to put on an old Tasco I have laying around, for now. But start saving some money up to upgrade at a later date. Shot it today and the factory irons are about an inch right at 25 yds! But I can compensate for that easy enough. I'll get the rings next week on payday.
