I need a manual for a Simmons Pro Hunter 6-24x42, model nr.  807703.   Will pay reasonable price plus mailing for manual.  Or, if someone knows of a download site, that would be fine, too.

Yes, I've tried Simmons.  Been sold to Bushnell and they haven't available any of the info beyond current production.

This one a 44mm not a 42mm I would suggest you call SWFA and ask them.  I would think the scope should be fairly basic and self expanitory what question did you have regarding the scope?

The main thing I need for that specific scope is the power at which the mil-dots are calibrated.

You are correct of course that all is is self-evident to anyone who as used  a scope but, while I assume it's at max. magnification the scope ranges the mil dots, I've lived long enough to know why they spell "assume" they way they do.

Make a chart on a piece of paper with a bunch squares that are 3.6 inches square.  Set it out to exactly 100 yards from your scope and the turn your power ring up and down until the squares are the exact same size as the mils on your reticle.  THen you know what power it is calibrated for.

Did you find a manual?  If so can it be copied?

I have the same need you do.  Have the scope w/o any documentation.

To simplify that, you can make a chart with increments in centimeters and run it as close as 30 meters from the scope. The main reason is that it's much easier to measure the shorter distance than it is to measure out to 100 yards or meters. And for this test to be accurate, the distance from the objective has to be exactly 1000 times the increment measured. Even using a quality laser range finder won't be close enough out that far.

30 meters = 3 cm per mil
40 meters = 4 cm...and so on

If that freaks you out or appears downright un-American, try using 1.8" at 50 yards. I realize that many scopes, especially if their highest magnification is 15X or above, won't even focus closer than 50 yards.

I have the 807703 6-24x42 scope and I have the manual. The manual states; "Your MilDot reticle is designed for use at the highest magnification. This is because a second focal plane reticle changes subtention values as the magnification is increased or decreased. Therefore the 'dot' will only subtend 1 milliradian @ 100 yards at the highest level of magnification."

That's word for word, letter for letter right out of the manual.

I also have a leapers 4-16x56 that states 10 power as the ranging setting, which is a little more 'normal', but the Simmons specifically states "highest magnification."
