I want a scope that is good in close wooded areas that will likely be hunting under 75 yards, low light conditions for deer here in Michigan pressured woods.

1 or 1.5 power X 5-7. I was looking at a Hawke Vantage 30 WA 1.5-6x44 L4a IR at $250, a Hawke Endurance 30 WA 1.5-6x44 IR L4a at $429. Both have a reticle that is very simple, cross hairs with a IR red or green dot in the center, which is something I need too, simple.

I don't want to spend a bunch, honestly $250 was enough. However, I don't want to waste my money on something that I could get for cheaper in the $250 price point at Hawke. I figured I should check to see if there is a scope manufacture that makes scopes that are cheaper BUT just as good as the Endurence or Frontier Hawke lines at a much cheaper price point. These I believe are made in China, so it seemed like I might be paying to much for the Hawke. Not sure?

1. need that 1 or 1.5 X 6-7 power
2. need a clean IR reticle
3. need something that might be smaller then the Vantage or Endurance 44
4. can I get better glass for less OR the same price with better glass?

Hawke Endurance is a substantially better scope than the Vantage and is worth the price difference if you need low light performance.

Generally, I am not aware of any other similarly configured scopes in this sale price range that have a well executed illuminated reticle.

I would probably see if you can locate a Burris 1.5-6x40 that has been recently discontinued.

While out tonight, I turned on the reticle on my cheap scope and must say, I think it did more to blind me then help me see anything.

I'm thinking of going with a standard scope without the IR now.

I'll look at the Endurance closer, thanks.

If you are going without illumination, you might try to locate a Redfield Widefield 2-7.  It was really a very good scope.  FOV at 100 yards is almost 60 feet.  (57/58, I don't remember exactly).

I've never been a big Leupold fan, but have actually purchased several in the last few years and not been disappointed with any of them.
I actually looked at one of the VX-Freedom scopes at a local merchant not too long ago and thought it was, at a very short glance, not bad at all.
I hope it serves you well.
