Ok, Here's the scenario....just got back into hunting and bought a package deal from Savage. Model 16, synthetic stock and stainless barrel in .308. It came with a, I know...I know, Simmons 3 x 9 silver scope. The rifle i'm extremely happy with, great caliber, accu trigger, etc. But I want to upgrade the scope. In here lies the problem. With a wife and 4 kids, money is always tight. So needless to say, I want to do it as cheaply as possible. Much to choose from on the market. At first I thought I'd go with a 3 x 9 x 50, because everyone told me it let in more light at daylight and dusk. Now after reading in the forum, I'm totally confused. I've also been preached at about buying a Luepold or Nikon for quality glass, but now I've discovered in the forum, alot of talk on Sightron (and Weaver) for superior glass and alot less money. I know your first question is what do I want to spend....but I really don't have an answer. As cheaply as possible to get a good quality scope. I'm very interested in hearing about the Sightron Scopes from anyone out there who might own one. Thanks in advance for your help!

There are alot of options for 3 to 9 variable power scopes If you can
go to a max of $300 I would recomend the Weaver Grand Slam. It's a
great scope with excelent glass for the money and perhaps the best
adjustments in it's class. Weaver does not have a 3-9x50 in the Grand
Slam line up, but they do have a 3.5-10x50 right at $300 in silver or
matte. They also offer a 3-10x40 Grand Slam for about $250 in your
choice of finish.
I have heard great things about sightron, especialy the SII series but I have yet to use one. Maybe a few Sightron owners will chime in here with their opinions. Edited by TwoLaneBlackTop |

Hello!!
Try this out.

That's a good scope for less than $200, my man. |

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

All good recommendations, certainly. My take on it would be to
get either a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 or Sightron S2 3-9x42 for about
$200. I think these are the best for the money. WIth that
being said, I have not tried the new Buckmaster. Weaver Grand
Slam is a very nice scope, but it is a little more expensive and the
glass is not better than Sightron, although a little better than Burris.
Anyhow, any one of the four will be a bright durable scope and will serve you well. I am a Sightron fan (have four of them on various rifles) so that would be my recommendation, but all of these are pretty good. Ilya |
