Hello. I am going to take advantage of the SWFA Black Friday Savings and need advice on what scope rings to buy to go with the following guns. The scopes I am looking at will have 30mm tubes with 42mm objectives (Objective Bell Diameter = 49.4mm - found this measurement for only one of the ones I am looking at). The guns are: 1) DPMS LR308 SASS - What would be the proper SWFA scope ring height to purchase or would the SWFA AR Tactical SSALT fit, give me the proper height and work fine. (The SSALT is on sale for Black Friday) The other gun (don't laugh), 2) S&W M&P 15-22, 22LR - What would be the proper SWFA scope ring height to purchase or would the SWFA AR Tactical SSALT fit as well. (This scope may be used on my DPMS AR15 .223 if it seems too much) Both scopes are FFP Variable. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You |

I would go with the SSALT mount. Works well on ALL AR-15 type A3/A4 upper rifles.
Some folks like the high ring type mount, but I don't. You could also get low rings and a 1" spacer, if you were transferring the scope between say an AR and a bolt gun with a Picatinny rail. This comment is mainly for other readers that may happen to read this post. You are switching from AR flat top, to AR flat top, right? Welcome to Optics Talk.

Bobro or American defense are two very good choices for AR mounts.

Concur. The Bobro is excellent, as I'm sure the AD is as well.

I have probably 10 AD Recon mounts, all magnifying scopes on ARs ride in an AD mount, they have been perfect for me.
Rings can work, only in high or extra high, and cheek weld can still be tricky with some stocks. If moving between ARs, you want QD and you need to maintain 2 zeroes, so plan on that. I have a bobro or 2, like them, but love the AD mounts, great lockup, very strong, very light, and good return-to-zero. The SSALT is okay, I found the screws to be a bit soft, they strip too easily, otherwise it is a decent inexpensive mount. |

Don't overlook this one - http://swfa.com/GGG-AC-30-Accucam-QD-Mounting-Base-w-Integral-30mm-Rings-P10740.aspx Running it on my AR and M&P15-22. Will work fine with a 42mm scope.
