Recently the "clicks" on my bullet drop turret on my SS have almost dissapeared. This is very aggrevating....although the SS is a very good scope. I am confused as to what I should do. When I first recieved the scope I noticed that the clicks were not syncronized in sound or feel. One turret felt tighter than the other, I paid no attention to this coming to the conclusion that they would eventually balance out. I love the SS, and do not want to get rid of it, but I need to get this situation resolved, and GOOD advise would be greatly appreciated, also has anyone else had this problem?

Yote, look at this thread here http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4346&PN=1, I found the Danco #30 o-rings at my local Ace Hardware Store. I used some synthetic disc brake caliper grease and it solved my problem. It appears that the SS makers use a slightly larger diameter o-ring to help keep the turret waterproof under many feet of water which I am sure it does but after a while the friction of the o-ring against the turret becomes excessive in some of the SS scopes and you lose the feel of the clicks. I tried all of the recommended procedures posted on this board to free up the turrets but after a while I would always lose the feel of the "clicks". The Danco # 30 o-rings seems to be the answer at least in my case although I will not be submerging my scope in 15 feet of water to test them out. |

My SS is still clicking nicely! I have twisted and turned the heck of it too.
Henry455's post will solve your problems, friend. (I wouldn't blame you for calling Stephanie PERSONALLY just to say you got to talk to a real deal Optics Goddess though.)

Took a look at my SS today. After turing the elevation turret up 3-6 MoA clicks reappear, same thing goes when I turn it down 3-6 MoA. The clicks are dead from about 2 MoA to 0 in either direction. Windage turret sounds fine. I took off the elevation turret just to see if there was a buildup of grease or anything and I couldn't notice anything. I think that I might send it in here within a few weeks. Could any of the team SWFA let me know what that entails in the send in process? Just send a private post or something.
Thanks Yote |
