I need to mount a new Trijicon AccuPoint on my Sako Varmint with Tally Quick Detatch Rings. When I assemble everything and lock in the alignment bars...they are a "hair" off. The rear is just a touch lower than the front. I have tried every combination and the rear is always just a touch lower. Will lapping help? Do the alignment bars have to absolutely line up? I would imagine yes? Does anyone have any suggestions. I spoke with Talley and they told me that their rings do not require lapping. Any help will be appreciated!!

Lapping will not fix the problem, it will just make your rings over sized and create more problems.  The problem is most likely your action is out of alignment.  This is one of the problems with using two piece bases.  If you were using a 1 piece you could bed the base to the action and make it straight.  It is also possible the Talleys are out of spec, but I would bet it is your rifle action.

If you mount a scope in there the way it is, it will put your scope in somewhat of a bind.  Whether or not it will be enough to damage the scope is really hard to say.  I am sure their are hundreds of thousands or scopes that are not mounted perfectly in this regard and they are just fine.  I also dare bet that hundreds of thousands of scopes have been damaged because of this as well.

You could also go with something like Burris rings that have the rubber inserts in them.  They by design are made to deal with problems like this.  I have never used them, but alot of people really like them.

What do you mean a "hair" off??  I don't understand whats off.  I use those exact rings.  Do you mean they locking levers don't line up?  Of is in not tight?
