I need some help. I have a Kimber Longmaster (22-250) and Zeiss Diavari 6-24x56 Scope. My probelm is that once the scope was mounted with the Kimber bases and
Leupold rings, most of my elevation height adjustment was used up to zero at 200 yards. I know that I can probably shim, as was discussed on another thread I started.
but I would rather use a rail system. So here are my questions

1) Does this mean that the scope is angled down?
2) will a 20 MOA rail fix this problem? the Zeiss manual says to mount the scope at 25 "angled Minutes"
3) are there rail/mount systems for the Kimber?

And most important...does anyone know of a good gunsmith in the Southern California area that can do this work? I don't really trust the Gunsmith that already did the
mounting

Not sure about SoCal, but if you're willing to go to Vegas, Ray Lynn is the man....you'd probably have to drop it off (so that would be two trips)....I'm not familiar with the Kimber but if the only route is to shim, he'd be the guy I'd use (702) 645-1538.   Seems like half of Cali was driving to LV everyweekend that I was heading to San Diego for my masters classes....and then the reverse on Sunday afternoon during my trip home.

Ken Farrell makes a 20+ MOA mount that should fit your Kimber...if you're rings are the Leupy weaver QRW style, they should work, if they're the Redfield twist-in style, then you'll need to buy new rings to fit.  www.kenfarrell.com (currently out of stock).  I would mount the scope myself....plenty of good how-to books out there (wally-world has a basic rifle gunsmithing book for $10) or some of the bigger books stores sometimes carry gunsmithing books in the Sports section....I'd suggest a library but I'm sure any firearms related books have already been burned (don't feel bad....I'm from Santa Barbara originally...and will never go back).

I'm not an expert so those with more experience will probably have a better idea (and I'm just going to speculate without being about to look at your setup) but it sounds like whatever issue the scope/mount is having is made probably worse by size of the objective lens making it farther than normal above the bore axis.  This would mean more mechanical correction to bring it down to your zero (100yds?).  Another temp solution might be to zero farther out but that is dictated by what type of shooting you're doing (plus personal preference, shooting style, training, etc).

Sandstock, thanks for the info. I checked the Ken Farrell site, nothing listed for Kimber but I will give him a call. I could probably do it myself but frankly I don't want to
spend all the money to buy a bunch of tools that I will probably only use once ot twice. And of course I am scared to death that I will mess up a $2K Scope.

I will have to buy new rings because I do have the Redfield type. But I am willing to spend the money. As far as zeroing the scope goes. I am zeroed at 200 yards. and
probably have another 5 to 6 MOA before I run out of height adjustment. So unless I do not understand the concept, shouldn't the scope be angled up in the front? and
wont the 20 MOA rail solve the problem.

BTW as luck would have it I am travelling to as Vegas on 5/11 . So I am also going to call Ray Lynn and see what he can do

Thanks

P.S. please excuse the formatting of my posts. I am using an Apple computer and it just does something weird to the formatting in these forums

The 20 MOA rail will give you that much more adjustment, you're right as the scope angles up, you use more of the bottom end of your mechanical adjustment.  I would call Ray and if you just need a mount swapped out, he can probably turn it around quick, shimming may take longer, the man is a craftsman and has some amazing rifles in his shop.  Does the 84M mount fit?  I don't know if you have the same action (it's not listed on the KF website, you'll have to call or type "kimber" in the search box)

Sandstock. Thanks! The Kimber Longmaster is based on the 84M action. I did a search and the rail for the 84M is shown...just out of stock. I will call Ray tomorrow and
see what he can do.

Thanks
