I am in the market for a new scope and want to get a good product this time around.  I figure it will be used 80% at the range and 20% chasing down varmints.  This will be home mostley on my 223 but it might do some time on my 308 and 17hmr.  Here are the models I am looking at.

New Burris 4.5-14x42 Fullfield II Tactical Rifle Scope
  $378

Leupold 12x40 FX-III   $569

Leupold 6-18x40 VX-II  $450

Nikon 6.5-20x44 Monarch   $480

I really would like a model with target turrets.  Have a bushnell 3200 Elite 10x and love the turrets.  Also I know Leopold has a reputation for a high price.  I am willing to pay the price for a great customer service center and good warranty.

No not really, I would be happy with just a plain duplex reticle.

Well I think I have at least narrowed it down to the Leupolds and Nikon.
This is a hard decision.  I think I am going to head to Pro Bass and Gander and see if I see them in person.

Well I think I am going to hold out for the variable SS.

I just mounted a fixed 10x SS on my .308 and I like it.

$300 scope and you can start shooting!!!

I mounted a fixed 16x SS on one of my .308 rifles and to be truthful with you, it is my all out Cold Shot favorite. $300.00 is very cheap.
