I just picked up a new rifle this past Friday evening, a Weatherby Vanguard Sub Moa, in .308 Win. caliber. I am needing a scope to go on it and am looking for some advice/opinions on a few I am considering. They are:
1. Meopta Meostar in 3-12 x 56
2. Zeiss Conquest in 3-12 x 56
3. Swift Premier SRP 3909M in 3-12 x 56
Which one of these scopes are the best? Which one will be the clearest & brightest? Which one will perform better in low light, late evening conditions? Does any one of the three stand out as better than the others?

Thanks for the help.

If it were me and only selecting from the list you have posted, I'd select in the SAME order that you have listed. I have been told at a retailer that sold BOTH Meopta and Zeiss that Meoptas were better. I have recently purchased my first "really good scope"--Zeiss Conquest 3-9X40; but its only a little more than half of what you're looking to spend. --Bboy623

The Conquest and R1 will be simular optically, if I were mounting a 56mm scope I'd want a 30mm tube for strength.

What is your intended purpose for this rifle?

Whitetail deer hunting will be the primary purpose. Specifically, I'll be using this rifle to hunt on a gas line that will have long shot opportunities in both early morning & late evenings.

lucytuma, All 3 of these scopes are 30 mm tube scopes.

Of the three you mentioned I am partial to the Zeiss but thats IMO. It will depend on the investment you want in a scope $ mise.  I also like these two which are all similar but maybe more than you want to invest

I think any would do what your want and then some

The Meopta will have slightly better glass than the Conquest.  But the Meopta only has 3 inches of eye relief.  To many that could be an issue.

supertool73,

According to Meopta & Zeiss's websites, the Meopta Meostar R1 3-12 x 56mm has 3.5" of eye relief and the Zeiss Conquest 3-12 x 56mm has 3.2" of eye relief.

Am I correct in the fact that the Zeiss are Geman made glass and parts but are American assembled?  The coatings on the Conquest glass are a different coating than on the Diavari line, correct?

 SVT_Tactical,

I'd buy the Swaro in a heartbeat if I wasn't limited on price but it's a little more than I can afford to spend.

Then I would go with the  Zeiss. Quality, Reputation, Customer Service, Warranty......  Or you could go with the Super Sniper 3x9 and have a rugged, great scope for all distances and save a little too! Good luck let us know what you decide on.

Meopta actually makes the lenses for the Conquest line of scopes.  I believe they use Schott glass, not that it really matters as long as it is up to spec. You are correct that they are assembled in the USA.

Meopta must have recently changed there specs on the scopes in regards to eye relief.  That is a good thing as that has been a huge gripe for people on their scopes that they only had 3 inches on eye relief.  I hope they actually changed it and did not just change the specs on their site.

I have an Atremis model and like it a lot.  But it is very short on the eye relief.

HEre is a recent review of one of the Meoptas 3-12x56.  He says his only has 2.75 inches of eye relief.  If that is the case then Meopta is fudging the numbers on their site which is not very cool in my book.

I hope this is not against the rules to post a link to a scope manufactor website but if it is please delete as I have done this out of not knowing it was wrong to do.

Click on spec's to see the eye relief they have listed.

I saw that as well.  But the recent review of the guy that just bought one the first of the month says otherwise.  I just don't want you to buy one and then have it have under 3 inches even though Meopta lists 3.5.  I assure you the Meopta scope I have is under 3 inches as well.

Sometime manufacturers like to fudge the numbers a little to make things more appealing.  It appears Meopta might be doing just that.

I have a R1 4-12x40 mounted on a 300wby and haven't any eye relief problems, but everyone is different and this could present a problem for some.

I settled on the Zeiss Conquest 3-12 x 56 MC after going to our local sporting goods store today & looking at both the Meopta & the Zeiss.

Not taking anything at all away from the Meopta but there were a few things I liked about the Zeiss a little better.

I went ahead & purchased the Zeiss there because they had them on sale for $799.99 through tonight.

Got a Leupold 1 piece base, Leupold rings and got the scope mounted on the rifle & bore sighted. I plan on getting the rifle zeroed tomorrow & hunting with it in the pm tomorrow.

I thing I'm gonna love the Zeiss. I have a Kahles Helia C 3-12 x56 on my Sendero .300 RUM that I really like but I think I'll like the Zeiss just as well or even better.

This is the first Zeiss I have owned and I want to thank you all for your help & opinions.

Merry Christmas & God Bless.
