Hey all, Just wanted to know what you all thought about the some of the scopes Ive got picked out.

Ill be shooting a Tikka heavy barrel 308 (master sporter, for those who know) mainly for target shooting (in clear cuts, not on a range) and long distance hunting, (deer, coyotes etcetc.). Ill be looking at ranges of up to 1km in some areas. Average hunting range will probably be 200 - 500. So without further adue.

Burris X Tactical 6-24x50 Ballistic Mil Dot
Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 Mil Dot
IOR Tactical 4-14x50 MP8

I might even step it up to the IOR 3-18x42 MP8 simply for the 35mm tube

I really dont care much for looks or size or weight. Im looking for clearity, durability, immunity to weather, user freindlyness, and consistency

So, whatcha think?

I'd go with the 1st IOR you listed.  The 6x scopes will screw you in the woods hunting and you don't need better than 14x for 1000 meter target shooting, most of the rest is lost to mirage.......................unless you're an Oregon resident then it makes the rain drops to big to see around.  :)

IOR glass is very good, and the scopes are rugged. I would generally agree with Mike on this, except to mention to be sure to get the illuminated reticle, if you will do any shooting in woods or brush. The MP8 is a great reticle for long range shooting, but you'll lose it in brush if it isn't glowing.

You might wait for the new Bushnell 6500 line or I would go for the IOR 3X18. The Bushnell line is supposed to ber out in Feb.

IOR's glass is good, the scopes are good, but the company is a one-man show - I know, I've dealt with them.  They offer a great product at a great price and they do this by cutting costs on Customer Service and by making the scopes in Romania (I think.)
So, if it never breaks, it is a bargain.  If it does break or has an issue, be prepared for a nightmare.  If it is anything serious, it will shipped off to Romania and you will get it back someday in the very distant future.
I bought an IOR, I had a few issues, I got the infamous IOR Customer Service answering machine one too many times, I sold the IOR.
I own several Conquest scopes, have sent one back in (to have a hunting turret replaced with a target turret - a very, very nice option from Zeiss) and had it back in a few weeks.  I called Zeiss Customer Service several times and talked with an actual person each time.

So, IOR glass might be a little better but is it worth the hassle if there is a problem?  For many, the answer is yes; for me, the answer is a resounding no.

Thanks for the advise. Looks like this is a juggle between customer service and quality. Can anyone suggest any other scope that I might have not mentioned? I only put down the options that I thought Id like best.

One more thing, am I going to have to get a angled scope mount for any of these scopes to bring me to 1k?

Yes the zeiss conquest 4.5x14x44 side focus with either a ranging reticle or even the z plex. It will be plenty bright, very resolute, and they have decent customer service and work on em' here in the US. As said above for hunting the 14 power will be enough and the lower 4.5 end will adjust low enough. I have one and am very impressed with the glass and tracking. You can also get it with the pride fowler reticle and a 50mm objective if desired. Just another thought....
