I finally decided to put a good quality optic on top of my Savage Model 11. Now I'm in need of a one piece base and 30 mm some rings for it. The
bases that I was looking at were either the EGW 1 piece 0 MOA (around
$40)or the Weaver Tactical extended multislot 0 MOA (around $30).
What's the verdict on either of these or are they just about the same?
The rings that that I've been looking at are either Burris Signature Zee 30mm rings or TPS TSR Steel rings. I'm really trying to keep the cost of the rings under $80. Also, I have zero experience with either of these brands so opinions are greatly welcomed. Thanks |

My Savage 11 chambered in .308 win, is a dual purpose rig. I use it to deer hunt as well as punching holes in paper at the range.

If your not stickly wanting a "tactical" setup the talley onepiece ringmounts are great. |

If you are getting a zero can't base I would get the Talley ring mounts also. I don't really see the point in putting a giant 1 piece base on a rifle unless you need cant. Another advantage of a slotted one piece base is the ability to move the scope more forward and backwards more so than with a fixed setup like the Talley's. But in many cases that may not be necessary.
The EGW base will raise your scope up considerably higher because they are so thick. That is never a good thing. With the Talleys you will probably be able to keep your scope a lot closer to the barrel. The Talleys are also very strong. I have them on a 45-70 and a 7 lb 300 wsm and they deal with the recoil just fine. But if you just want a tactical type base, that is okay too. But don't just buy the cheapest thing in a tactical base just becaues you want one. A good quality mounting system is just as important as the scope and rifle. |
