I currently own a swaroski AV 3x10 scope which is pretty good. The specs say >94% light transmission. I don't like the reticle (plex) because I have trouble seeing it in very low light. Swaroski will not retrofit with a thicker reticle so I'm looking to replace this one. I've been looking at Leupold LPS with German reticle, Leupold VX-III with illuminated, Nikon UCC, Zeiss, and others. I would like to keep the weight as low as possible, would like the brightest scope for low light conditions, and would like to get a heavier reticle so I could get on the target in low light situations. I'm trying to spend no higher than $1000.00 and would like 3-10 range of magnification. I use the scope for Elk and deer.
Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? I'd really like to see some kind of comparison on high end scopes. |

Look at the Leupold Vari X III in Heavy duplex reticle with the Illuminated reticle will help you out alot in very low light. The Zeiss Conquest or Nikon Monarch in Heavy reticles are very good choices for very low light hunting. These scopes are all resonably priced under $1000.00 as well. If you want to spend a little over $1000.00, look at the Zeiss VM/V 1.5-6X42 in 11 reticle. I can personally vouch for the excellent low light capablities of this scope and it is one of the lightest as well. The 11 reticle is extremly heavy which shows up great when the light is very dim. |
