First of all,I'm not a long range shooter..Yet.
I'm fairly new to the optics game.
The last time I made a long range shot was with a M-21,that had an ART-2 scope,25 years ago,it was issued to some units "walking the fence" on the Korean DMZ

I'm on a shoe string budget at this time due to family sickness.

What I have right now to work with is as follows

NIB,never fired,Savage 10FP-LE. 7.62X51

Base is a Leupold part # 55742
Rings are 30mm Medium (.770)  Leupold part # 49956

Base and rings I can trade in and get better one's I need,if I need them.

The researched Scopes in my budget are...

SS and Millett scopes.
I've heard good things about both, the Millett 4-16x50 with the Illuminated Mil-Dot
is on back order.
Millett 4-16x56
Millett 4-16x50 with the Illuminated Mil-Dot

I'd like to have a variable scope and Illuminated Mil-Dot  ,but thats not really important.

As far as the SS scopes goes,I'm looking at the...

SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical Scope
SWFA SS 10x42 Tactical Scope-with Side Focus Adjustment
SWFA SS 16x42 Tactical Scope
SWFA SS 20x42 Tactical Scope

This board is full of wisdom,Patty at SWFA was a huge help,I just didn't have the time to ask her everything I wanted to.

As far as stocks goes,I've run into Bell & Carson, that might fit in my budget

I don't like the stock it came with,I would like to replace it,I've heard that "Bell & Carson
makes a good one for those on a budget.
Although I keep running across warnings about this stock.
"This stock will NOT work with the new Savage rifles using the "in-line" feed system with the center to center distance of 4-3/8" between the action bolts. Please make sure you rifle measures 4-1/4" before ordering."

Any response would be welcome,Patty was such a great help I would like to give a "look-see" here more often.

Thanks again.

Definately go with the 10x42m super sniper.....it is  better than most scopes from $500-$1000 and the best in its own price range $300-$400.....pound for pound and for the $ they are the best.....

Thank's for your response,I did go with the SS 10x42,it with be shipped out
Monday.Even though the Millett has had decent reviews,my buddy's e-mail to me sold me on the "SS",he used to be in the Marksmanship Unit at Ft.Benning for some years before he retired.
Now to find a case of M118 Match, M852 Match or several other
compareble ammunition of the same lot to feed her.Looker

I have the same rifle, and I put mine in a Bell and Carlson Varment/Tactical stock. The only issue I had was I had to open up the barrel channel a little to get even clearence around the barrel. Other than that, it was a straight drop in, and one of the trigger guard screw holes will need to be drilled in the stock, or you can do like me and forget it.

BeltFed
Thanks for the input.

The person I talked to,who works for the company I'm buying the stock from posts this warning on their web site.

"#2997 Savage Short Action Varmint/Tactical with or without Accu-Trigger, Fits NEW STYLE “CENTERFEED” OR “INLINE FEED” Fits the short action "two digit models" only (such as Model 10, 10GY, 11F, 12, 16 etc.) with heavy contour barrel and blind top loading internal magazine, with action screws measuring 4.389"center to center only."

I measured from center of take down screw to the center of the forward screw on the trigger guard,it is 4.389,my stick is what they call “CENTERFEED” OR “INLINE FEED”

Is your's the same, and is your stock you had to mod,B&C #2997?
I was assured that I would have to do no modification after I took the stock off while on the phone, according to this person what I have is a “CENTERFEED” OR “INLINE FEED”
because the internal magazine is attached to the stock as opposed to the reciever.

If yours is the same as mine then I'll have to mod mine also.

"one of the trigger guard screw holes will need to be drilled in the stock, or you can do like me and forget it."

No problems with your rifle after "forgetting it?

Once again, thanks for your input, excuse my font change,I'm a big fan of "copy and paste"

BM454, everything sounds pretty much the same as mine. I don't remember the # of the stock but it sounds the same as mine. Mine came from Stocky's, and they advise that there might be some minor fitting to get the stock to fit.
As for the screw hole for the triggerguard, my rifle is a range queen so I have had no problems. If I was going to use this rifle for hunting or matches, I would add the screw to the triggerguard. The screw has nothing to do with securing the reciever to the stock.
Hope this helps.
