I have a budget of $1000.00.

I had a IOR 4x24 M1 scope on my FAL for the last few months. I really would like something for longer range shooting. From 100 yards out to around maybe 600 yards (max range at my club) I do like the glass and the ruggedness of the IOR. They seem to be built like tanks and I believe they are possibly the best bang for the buck.

I saw on the IOR website the  2-12x32 35mm with the MP-8 reticle.

This looks like what I need but I cannot find any reviews on this scope. Anyone own this scope.

Also, if there is a similiar scope out there let me hear your reviews.

Welcome to OT.

I haven't owned the scope in question, but I have owned 2 IOR's.

Both had the MP8 reticles. Great concept. Better than an average mil dot, IMO.

I'm not crazy about lit reticles anymore, and frankly, IOR's illuminated reticle wasn't all that great.

What kind of scope mount are you using?

I had a REALLY CHEAP standard dust cover with a 'weaver' rail  on it.  It was loose enough to eventually eat the reticle/lens in my fixed 6X Redfield Tracker scope...

6X is a good power/scope, but not if it's mounted on something LOOSE.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm using a ARMS #3 mount on my FAL. I used it with my IOR 4x24 M1 and it was rock solid. I would really to go up to at least 10x or 12x. I'm looking at a variable scope also. The 2x12 from IOR seems perfect but I can't find any reviews on that scope

Try going over to AR15.com.

Those guys use IOR's, and maybe they could help you.

Just come back here and let us know what you decide on....OK?

I do hang out over at AR15.com I will definately let you know what I decide on.

I also see that the Nightforce 2-10x24 35mm might also be what I am looking for. The IOR is $200 cheaper.

Any experience with this scope?

IMO the best bang for your buck would be the Super Sniper with a Bager Base and rings. It compares with my MK IV's and is a lot cheaper.

I love my SS, Joe you must love the one you picked up because you've been suggesting it a lot lately.  Which isn't a problem because I think it's one of the best fixed 10x scopes available.

If you want a high power scope probably the super sniper is the answer. Another exelent choices are IOR 6X42/ 6x30 M2 and 2.5-10x42.

One thing to keep in mind about dust cover mounts, They are not rock solid. and the best FAL rarely shoot under 2 inchs. It doesn't matter what they cost or how good they are, the mount can never be as good as a solid bolt gun mount. Even if you got a higher power and (target type) scope the mount and gun isn't up to it. For the money spent and the nature of the gun the SS10 suggested above is the best, (I'd argue on the mounts why do you need rock solid mounts on a base that can never be solid If nothing more than vibration alone were considered.) Burris  or Leo would save some money and work just as well.

DSA sells a pic rail / cover that is susposed to be rock solid. I looked into them when I thought about getting an FAL.

With a little work the FAL is more than capable in keeping its groups under an inch. I knew someone who used an FAL he had a mount that looked like the B Square shotgun mounts that attach to the receiver. I dont know where he got it but it was rock solid and still allowed removal of the receiver cover. However it did require a cheek piece for a good cheek to stock weld.
