I know this topic is similar to other regarding low light binoculars.  My current hunting lease appears to be populated with deer that almost ONLY show themselves at last available light (as in nearly illegal shooting light).  I am of the opinion that for "shooting house" hunting on a green field, I will similar have to arm myself accordingly.

I will eventually need to purchase the Meopta 3x12 56mm illuminated scope for my rifle, and I feel fairly confident about that decision.  The question now is binoculars.  Of course I want the "ultimate" low light binocular, however my budget does not allow this (I assume).  In addition these will be truly hunting binoculars, and I don't feel it would be right to beat up a ultra-nice pair of optics that I really had to sacrifice for.  I would ideally like a 10x power binocular, since I assume at age 37 my eyes can nor truly use a 7mm exit pupil, and more magnification (relative to 7x or 8x) would be more appropriate.

So ... within a budget of around $1000-$1100 or so I have come up with the Steiner Nighthunter 10X56mm.  I feel fairly certain this is better than most lower cost and/or lower objective diameter binoculars, however, I'm not certain how close they truly come to some of those regarded as best-of-the-best.  In other words, could I simply save $400 more, make my budget $1500 and gain 5 minutes of shooting light, or is this binocular at the point of splitting hairs?  To me 30 more seconds of light is probably not worth spending 50% more.

One of the reviews I read mentioned well designed, hard to lose, objective and ocular covers/caps on the Steiners.  This feature, along with the angled eyepiece guards seem to indicate that the designers actually thought through the ergonomics and creature features of these.

So, my questions:

1)  Can someone who is experienced in actually looking through high end, binoculars under very low light conditions tell me if these binoculars truly qualify as stand-outs in low light performance?

2)  How are the ergonomics of these compared to other ones in the price range?

3)  Am I missing something in regards to usable hunting binoculars where I could simply save a moderate amount more $$ and get a significant performance increase from another brand?

4)  How do these binoculars perform in regards to color, flare resistance, and detail compared with high end brands featuring "HD" glass?

Thanks for any help you can give.  I seriously doubt I will ever find a store that carries these in Birmingham, AL where I could test them out in low light conditions, so I will substitute your educated opinions.

I'm surprised Roy Finn has not spoken up here.  I know he has Night Hunters and likes them.  You might PM him or do a little searching here, he has posted information on them.
