Hi everyone, I'm new to this site.  I need advice to purchase a new tactical scope for my 338 Ultra Mag that was custom built for long range hunting.  Nightforce would be my 1st choice but too expensive for my budget.  Maybe I'm too much of a "technogeek" but I've narrowed down my choice to 2 scopes: Bushnell Tactical 3X12 with illuminated reticle (catalog # ET3124F) OR the Weaver Tactical 3X15 with Illuminated reticle (catalog # 800363).  I've not had a chance to see the clarity of the Weaver but the Bushnell Elite 4200 Series I've seen were very clear.  The 2 scopes are in the same price range ( around 750$).  Both scopes are Argon filled, side focus, 1st focal plane.  Bushnell has 0.1 mil @100 yards, Weaver has 0.36" @ 100 yards,   Bushnell has 80" of adj versus 100" with the Weaver.  I prefer the larger power on the Weaver.  Let say that if Bushnell was offering its Tactical 2.5X16 scope but with the illuminated reticle I would not be here asking for help.

Please help me make a good choice OR suggest another brand and model, any comments from owners of either one of these scopes would be very good!

Cheers! Fred.

Thanks for you input.  Do you own a Voxtex?  If yes how does it compares to your other scopes? Where is the Voxtex made? I have strong confidence with Japaneese optics.

That is one and the same. So the turret adjustments seem to be the same as far as comparison. I have no personal knowledge of those two scopes to help out.

.1 mil =.36inch@ 100yards. Different way of saying the same thing. The important part is that the turrets match the reticle. Both scopes are pretty new, as well is the Vortex. I don't own any of the three, but Vortex's reputation for standing behind there product, plus the reticle choices, make it the scope in that price bracket that I want.
If it is tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

Own 1 viper but not the PST--6-20.All the Vipers are Jap glass, next couple of models down are Philipino & bottom of the line is made in China.I think the Razors are made in the LOW factory in Japan, which is considered by many to be the best glass factory in Japan!

ive been kicking around the same question but im in no hurry to see what shakes out. What ive come up with is i like the half mil marks on the weaver over the bushnell. So it would be between the vortex pst 4-16 and the weaver 3-15. Both are mil/mil, FFP, and have half mil marks. Is the vortex worth the extra $110? That is something i have no clue on and would like to hear something from an educated person who has been behind both of them, rather than the typical hearsay. Some differences are the pst has a form of zero stop (shims) and the weaver has locking turrets (push down to lock or leave up to turn).
