Here's the deal. I have a Browning 325 WSM that I am about to purchase and am really torn about what kind of scope to put on it. Advice would be greatly appreciated. My rifle hunting is usually set for whitetail hunting pushing bush, and sitting on post along bush lines on the edge of open fields. Also I do caribou hunting up north as well. I am looking for a durable scope that is going to fit nicely on the 325, be waterproof and fogproof as well as shockproof. Also dawn and early dusk is a key point, I am looking for something that's going to have the brightness and clarity in those conditions so I can make good shots. Good eye relief and quick target aquisition would be great to have as well. Price is somewhat of a factor but out of these scope options I don't have a problem with spending the money, as long as I'm getting the best possible for what I pay for. I've heard this and that about all these scopes but would like to know out of these scope options which one would be the choice of fellow hunters. Also when I start my rifle hunting it's usually cold as hell and snow is on the ground, or it is snowing during the hunts.
My scope choices are as follows:
Kahles CL 3-9x42 Leupold VX-III 3-10x40 Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40
What should be my choice? Edited by deuce |

Any one of these will work just fine. Considering the weather conditions, you may want to consider the Elite 4200. It has shorter eye relief than the other three, but if you are OK with that, it is a good scope.

I second koshkin's opinion. The 2.5-10x40 is one of the most versatile scopes going!!!!

All are nice scopes. The Kahles is not in the same price range as the others, IM sure it is a great scope but its also about $300 more then the others in the group.
I really like the Conquest I think it offers a lot of scope for the money, BUT then again so does the Bushnell 4200. As stated above the eye relief is a little shorter but the optics are great and crystal clear. I'd opt for the firefly option and get a brighter flashlight to charge the cross hairs when walking out at dawn or dusk.
As for the Leupold, its a good scope with a well known name and a warranty second to none. Brand recognition is useful if you ever want to sell off the scope. I personally think the others offer a bit better optics and in the Bushnell's case does it for a little less money.
The one thing that I really like about the Bushnell is its magnification range, 2.5-10 is very flexable.
