I'm looking for a place that tends to have ammunition for cheap. I'm actually looking for the Barnes VORTX 165 gr, but the only place up here that has it is Cabela's, at $54 a box. Anyone have anything better?

Which gun are you looking at it for?  Your 300 WM?

Have you tried "midway" or "grafts".

VORTX is pricey ammo, as is most of the good stuff.  It doesn't take long to make an investment in reloading equipment pay off at $54 a box.

I concur. Any ammo using Barnes bullets is likely not to be cheap. Making solid copper bullets is expensive. Even making them myself, I cannot make them as cheap as I can buy most factory jacketed bullets. With copper prices being what they are, they just cannot be made cheap. If they shoot good, that is just the price you have to pay for that quality, until you start handloading. Then you can load any bullet for any caliber, and do it for a reasonable price. It's likely they will shoot better too.

Yeah, thats what I'm coming to see, they are still plus 50 a box no matter what. I did notice that when I start reloading, which should be shortly after I move, because of the money I will receive for moving, that a box of Barnes TTSX's are 22 for 50 at Cabela's, so I should be able to get exactly what I want when I start reloading. The only thing is to get what I need to do that.

At that price you better snap them up! I see 168 gr. TTSX at $38 a box. I'd get them while you can.

Yeah I'm going to. I believe that was their sale price maybe at this location. Now for someone to send me a PM on the basic list of equipment to do the loading, and a detailed list of what products I need for the round themselves, that would make me smile, and my wife smile a lot. I'll obviously buy a book to read on how to, I just need those lists to purchase things when I see them for sale!

You need to start a new thread asking what you need for reloading.

Ditto

at that price you could be paid off in 15 boxes of ammo and be paying yourself a boat load...

Did some quick calculating and came up with this...

Bullet+Powder+Primer+Case(Brass) = $.78 per round with 8 reloads per case...

$15.60 to have the satisfaction of knowing you are removing all variables in accuracy except yourself.

Their is nothing finer in life than tuning a load to fit your application and your rifle so that you get the results you deserve...
