I think the 4x scope on my AUG is about to crap. I've had it a long time. Got it from Brigade Quartermaster. It has STANAG mounts and a bullit drop compensator (BDC) for 55gr 223. I don't think it's available any longer.
When I dry fire it I notice the reticle bouncing. It's still holding zero for now (I think).
The ACOG won't work as it sets to high and I can't get a good stock weld.
I'm looking for a 1-4x scope with either a BDC or external elevation and windage knobs, straight 4x will work too. Need to keep it under 500.00 so no Schmidt & Benders.
Any suggestions?

For a straight 4x, you can try IOR 4x24 with BDC for 5.56  Keep in mind that it has a non-centered reticle.  Awesome little scope otherwise.  Another option is IOR 3x25which has no BDC, but exposed knobs.

With 1-4x, you will not find anything that fits your specs under $500.  Bushnell Elite 4200 1.25-4x24 is very nice, but no BDC and covered knobs.  Not a setup for clickers.

When I go to Leupold custom and take a VX  III  1.5-5x20 then Matte & Duplex and add M1 tactical knobs it comes out to  $519.97 plus shipping.   Add marked elevation knob with bullet drop compensation and it comes to $549.96 which doesnt sound bad to me.   I've been wanting to do this but no money right now.

Burris is just above your price range but is a good scope with B-plex for 5.56. Sounds just as you described but the price is $567

I can't recommend it because I haven't used it.

However buy quality once and cry once should be in your mind too.

Is anybody familiar with Brunton? I found a scope on egay that fits what I am looking for but I am not familiar with the brand. If it's crap, or Chinese I won't consider it. The Leupold has potential with the options. The Burris is also on my list but the reticle is a little busy. Still researching the IOR and Millett. Went to egay for ideas and found the Brunton but I have never heard of them.
Hope my current scope dosen't crap on me before my October match.

The Millett ain't bad, but it isn't my favorite scope on the planet.

I have it mounted on a SOCOM - at least till I pony up for a USO or Nightforce.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER!!!!
Brunton makes some great products - solar chargers and useful camping gadgets but their scopes are not up to speed.

The Leupold from the Custom Shop is a good choice as is the IOR and the other brand you might want to look at is a Kahles with multizero.  Its over your price range but still under a grand. The multizero feature is very fast.

Ok I'm looking real hard at the Leupold 1.25-4x and 1.5-5x scopes with either the duplex or special purpose reticles. I would like to add either the M2, M3, or M4 turrets to the elevation turret (which ever is easiest to see without being to tall). I need the scope now (my current scope went tits up), I have a match in Oct. and I don't have time to wait for a custom order. Can I order the scope, shoot the match then send it to Leupold for any changes?
I liked the IOR (402482) but the off center reticle won't work for me. I liked the Burris but that reticle is to busy and the Millet reticle donut blocks to much.
Also, any comments on the Europeon, VX-III, and the Tacticals would be welcome.

Don't buy the Millett, don't buy the Burris.

Were I in the same situation with the same limitations (Nightforce and USO both make scopes that'd be perfect, but both are 2x to 3x your budget), I'd seriously consider a 1.8-5.5x38 Zeiss Conquest.  With the Conquest (5214359920 Zeiss%201.8-5.5x38%20Conquest%20Rifle%20Scope%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20), you get a very clean reticule and you can send the scope to Zeiss after the match to have them fit it with a target turret for elevation ($50) and can order a Kenton Industries BDC knob for your exact data table ($80) and you'd still be under budget.

The scope has 4 inches of eye relief and will be brighter and mount lower than many of the others.

That would be high on my list.

The reticules with all the stadia lines look cool but only function if you spend MUCH TIME working with them.  Do you need the reticule to range or simply to adjust fire?

I would get the 1.5-5 since it uses the VX-III index matched lenses. They are better than the 1.25-4 standard multi-coat lenses. The Euro uses the standard multi-coat, too.
I would contact Leupold and SWFA to see if you can get a order quickly. I contacted Leo about putting the SPR on my standard 1.5-5 and they said no problem. You can do the same with the knobs, I'm sure.

Well as luck would have it (maybe good this time), while at the KCR MG shoot and gun show I found the same scope that I had. The dealer that had them got them new at a bankruptcey auction, and they are going out of business. They were selling these scopes for $40.00 each, they retail for about 300.00. A friend of mine that was at the show and owns a camera buisness looked at the scope and was impressed. He said he thought it may have been made by Howa of Japan. Any way I picked one up. Now I can start saving for a scope I really want. IOR, USO, NF, who knows....

Howa? If your friend is a photographer he would be more likely to say Hoya.

Either way, is the scope you picked up a 4x or a 1-4x?

It's a straight 4x, and very compact with a BDC. It will work until I can afford the variable I want.
My friend has been involved in all types of optical glass for a long time. His buisness isn't just a camera shop as he develops film and wholesales cameras, film, and just about anything associated with photography. He's also a collector of sniper rifles and scopes and is involved in long range shooting. while sometimes I can't stand the guy (he hates cops) I do respect his opinion about optical glass.

It is probably a Hakko made 4x scope.  They used to OEM it for different companies like Colt, CMO and also sold under their own name.
