Has anyone used a NcStar scope or knows anything about them? Wondering if they're a reliable, inexpensive brand.

There are a few out there that can be found using the search function.
Here is a statement from ILya Koshkin, the Dark Lord of Optics @ O.T.
The first two threads specifically state that the reliability is horrible.
What is your budget?

I have never even looked at an NC Star scope, but I would imagine that it is REALLY JUNK.  Before wasting sixty bucks on a Chinese or Russian or whatever scope, I would spend $50 or $75 and buy an older, nice-condition, used scope on e-bay or somewhere.

Buying an NC Star would be kinda like buying a pair of Brand New binoculars for $19.99. What the heck are you going to be getting??  Two toilet paper tubes taped together?   Whacko

Ncstar = junk.

I put one on a .454 casull, and it blew apart in 3 rounds.  It was pretty funny, the eye piece hit me in the face.
The optics were pretty bad as well.  But the good thing about it is I got all my money back no questions asked.

I'd like to spend less than $100 (I know that's not much, but it'll have to do). What brands would you recommend? If I try and get a used one for that price, what brands would be good and what would I need to look out for.

Thanks,
