I don't know how low a price tag is considered low, but I personally would shy away. There are probably better options out there for the money.

NC Star is not a very highly regarded brand.  Think of it this way... if the price is extremely low, that should tell you something.  A company simply cannot make a product as complicated and demanding of precision as a rifle scope and make a profit on it while selling it at the retail prices of an NC Star without cutting some serious corners in its manufacture.

This doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on a rifle scope to get a decent, serviceable one.  Reputable companies like Bushnell offer reasonably priced scopes that will last and serve their intended purpose without letting you down at the moment of truth.

Remember, if you buy something super cheap, it isn't cheap anymore if it doesn't do a good job of serving the very purpose it was intended and you end up buying something better later.  Then, you just wasted your money.  With the money you wasted added to what you end up buying later, you could have bought something of quality in the first place.

I would avoid it like the plague personally!

  lexmark,
Here's an example of a decent entry level scope with the features of that NCstar to give you an idea of what you can expect to pay:

I have an NcStar 10-40x50.  My comments are these:  I paid little for it, comparatively, the glass is not the worst on the market and is better than a lot of older (15 years or so) stuff you can find, I can use it to do some things I want to do but it has never been a "primary" optic for me, it has been on a number of rifles and holds zero.  HOWEVER, there are some pretty big "flaws" in focus and adjustments that can be self-defeating for the uninitiated.  Not sure if all or many of the NcStars perform like this one, but it is reason for concern.  I DO NOT recommend it, but IF you must have one, make sure of what your warranty is and make sure you commit to spend enough time with it to fully understand all the eccentricities of the scope before you actually need it for hunting or competitive shooting.  By the time you get comfortable with it, you may have broken it and have to replace it... based upon others' experiences.  For me, it is functional and serves some purposes... and it was CHEAP.  It is a "toy tool".  Serious use requires a better constructed piece of equipment.
You can get a lot more quality for not a lot more dollars... My informed and tested opinion based upon a personal sample of one and the comments of hundreds of users.

For the amount of money you can get better scopes. Granted they don't have the features. But what good are features that can't be used when the scope fails to hold or isn't exactly close enough for those features to useable.
