I bought the SWFA branded one-piece mount.  I like it, but the outer span of the rings is too long for my short stubby 3 power Nikon scope.  Does anyone know of a one-piece mount that has a span of say 3 1/2 inches or less (along the axis of the barrel) between the outer edges of the rings?

I know nikon makes the 2 piece AR mounts for scopes just like that.

I don't like these Nikon mounts.  The lower part of the mount is a monolithic piece of aluminum that gets crushed and deformed every time you install it and tighten the mounting screws.  I've got to believe that plays havoc with your zero setting.

Just wondering, but how are you tightening the mounting screws? Are you using a torque wrench that is marked in in-lbs? And if so how tight are you tightening them? If it gets crushed and deformed every time you install it I am guessing you are over tightening it.

This might be a good read for you.
