We talk about scope quality alot, and there is a tendancy  to think that certain brands, or certain price range scopes fail more than others.

At the range this morning I was shooting a couple 308's, a bolt gun built by PacNor and an AR10 built by GAP.  Got an old ratty worn out prototype Xotic on the bolt gun, a Luppy MkIV M3 on the gas gun.

The gas gun won't hold a group or shot placement to save it's life, all of a sudden.  It's been running just fine.
Xotic has about unpteen thousand rounds through it and about that many firing solutions, been on a 50 cal, 338 lapua, 223 bolt gun, one of the 308 bolt guns..looks like a survivor of a really bad train wreck......well it just goes on.

All that and the higher priced Luppy takes a dump.

Now  I know that a trip to Leupold is in order and that all things will be taken good care of in short order without question..

Kinda funny in that one of the gentleman shooting 1000 yard for the first time was wearing an SWFA cap and using his brand new SuperSniper 1042M without incident.
Paco Says HI Chris  :)

Goes to show that everything breaks and we should have a realistic undertanding that even well made things fail.

right on the mark.
Mike that is so very ture. price not always = better
i have had luppys fail,i blamed there rings and bases.
sent the scopes back to factory and thay return it to me repaired, so thay say.had a varII and III'S just was not
happy with the scope.i tried there tactical line of scopes
4x14x50 tac.w/ 30mm tube so far so good. it hasn't been throw
what the others have.i'm glad to find OPTICSTALK. lots of
info on optics that are reliable and don't make ya take out a loan.one of the men i shoot with has a 4x14 ior that is battle tested like your Xotic and still holding strong
so i got the 6x24x50 w/ 35mm tube dealer didn't have 4x14 in stock and thay where on back orded. darn near had to go to the bank. it was 1200.00 w/rings and badger one pice +20moa base. my next scope will be SS or Xotic when i build my 300wsm. hope to here more good stuff from you fellers.
and ever now and then i'll put in my 2 cents

good shooten men

I am also looking foreward to what the new Xotic is going to offer. Longbow308 you

have a great scope there, I agree with you, Leupold rings and mounts do not cut it.

Leupold tactical scopes have held up well for me but thier glass does not match their

price, when you build your 300WSM I would love to see what you have planed in the

early stages of development, rifle, mounts, rings, ammo. I am not in law Enforcment

or military but I love fine weapons and I will defend my country when the situation

presents itself, thats a promise. Great post Mike and longbow308.

well, i have a feller in Monroe La. he is in swat, he wants to buy the scope from me when i'm ready to sale it.i'll take that money and start a platform for my rifle. think about a mod. 70 action and #6 contor snider tube.24" long. and looking hard at belland carlson tactical stock.i don't want to go cheap, but i don't want it to take forever to save
for the exter money. i figer it is going to take about 1800.00 to 2200.00 to build the gun. any advice will be welcome.i can get a flutted tube and after market bolt that has a tighter tolerance with out mechaine work to be done to action for 1200.00 and the rest will be action triger, stock and scope will try SS IN 10X40 OR XOTIC

Longbow308 I like the action, barrel, and bolt my only concern is the stock.

The Bell and Carlson looks cool like the Mcmillan A2 but I have seen one

crack and have heard a couple of similar reports. I would say go with the

HS-Precision for a little more money. I am sorry to hear you might have to

sell your scope, it would work well with this set-up. If the Xotic is not available

what else are you looking into for a scope, this is my opinion and I will get some

boo's for this but I feel the SS does not cut it. I prefer a 2 1/4 lb 1 stage trigger pull

for this type of rifle and with a 300WSM I would put a break on it. Your bases and

rings are right on.

I DON'T HAVE TO SELL THE SCOPE, I WOULD RATHER HAVE IOR, BUT SMALLER, LIKE 3X18 OR 4X14 X 30MM. SELLING THE LUPPY WILL LET ME GET AROUND 600 TO 700.00 TO GO ON BUYING THE ACTION.
AND IT WOULD CUT SOME SAVEING TIME OFF.THE STOCK I'M LOOKING AT IS FULLY ADJUSTABLE,IT IS ONLY MADE FOR REM. 700 SHORT ACTION, THE STOCKS ONLY FITS A REM. 700 S/A SO I'LL HAVE TO RETHANK MY ACTION. IT IS 400.00 THE MCM. H/S PRE. ARE 500.00 + . AND THINGS MIGHT GET BETTER AT THE TIME. WHERE I CAN GET THE A5 FULLY ADJ.STOCK NEVER KNOW WHAT MY WIFE MIGHT LET ME DO. SOME OF THIS SHE WILL NOT KNOW ABOUT. HA!!! HA!!!

That sounds good Longbow308 a lower power in the IOR 35's will be great

in my opinion. Wish you luck with the wife, let us know how you do.
