Its just a walmart Weatherby in 30/06. The scopes a SWFA SS16. Now I just gotta learn how to shoot it. Its been a few years and Im struggling to hold steady off the bipod. So it looks like Im going to have to sew up a rear bag for it. Then Im going to try my hand at reloading. The only thing I can use it for aside from paper punching is whistlepigs but mostly just paper. Any advice on bullet selection for groundhogs?

My neighbor (16 year old kid) has a 30-06 and he got the bulk 30-06 ammo from cabelas, their brand, last year so he could "shoot alot" as he said and it was actually very accurate loads.  Another option and probably a bit better ammo would be georgia arms ammo.  They do reloads and have some favorable reviews.

I like the bulk idea.  If you plan on shooting ALOT you'll want to get into reloading.  I don't know what it is with Winchester's Super-X ammo but everything I've tried it in shoots well.  You can buy .308 cal 150gr Winchester Power Point bullets in bulk.

i think you can buy a light-weight bullet and load up some varmint rounds. for some reason im thinking 90-125gr is available for the .308 diameter stuff.

I was afraid they might be too light for the rifle to shoot well.

there is only one way to find out if a gun will shoot a 'light" bullet.  I have two .223's that both have a 8" twist, one will shoot 50grs great the other won't shot anything lighter than a 69gr bullet.  Its a matter of just testing as each barrel is different

well according to wby its a 1:10 twist so 150gr would be the lightest bullet you could use with certainty that it would shoot worth a damn.  ( according to dan lilja)
