She will be with you (in spirit) the next time you jump on that ATV.

My condolences, Ted.

Their lives are always too short. We have one that's 13.5 and another that will be 1 next month. They're worlds apart in terms of energy and movement. The older one was my wife's pick and I've mostly just tolerated her (the dog that is). Still, it'll be a loss to the family when she's gone. The last one before the pup I had to put down and it took seven years to get to where it felt like time to get a new one.

Like with your kids, you just have to enjoy every moment you can with them. I'd never like to be without either.
Reaction time is a factor...

A man wakes up next to a path along a fenced pasture.
Wondering where he is, he starts walking down the path.
Soon he sees his dog who starts to walk along side him.
Then he figures that he must be dead, because his dog has been dead for decades.
After walking for what seemed many miles along the fenced pasture, he comes to a great gate made of gold, with an old bearded man standing in front.
The man asked the old man if he may have a drink of water for himself and his dog.
The old man replies that there is plenty of cool fresh water inside that he may have, but that dogs were not allowed inside of heaven.
The man thought, "I can't leave my friend behind again", and decided to continue down the path with his dog.
The man comes to a hill, and when he reaches the top there is a wooden gate with the same old man standing in front of it.
He asks the old man, may I have a drink of water for me and my friend here?
Sure the old man says. There is plenty of cool fresh water for you and your friend inside of Heaven.
The man says, but I thought you said the other gate was the gate to Heaven?
The old man replies, "No, that was the gate to Hell. We figure that anyone who would leave his dog behind for water in heaven deserves to go to Hell".
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

My beloved red Doberman Judah stills visit's me in my dreams occasionally. I'm not some reincarnation kook, I'm serious. I awake so happy to have seen her and hugged her.

We have a table at my house that is glass and inside there are pictures of our pets that have died. It's a memorial.

Crap!  Just saw this.  Now I'm crying with and for you.  I'm sure it still hurts my friend,  My heart goes out to you and the family...

Thank you, gentlemen.

To some, a dog is just a dog. To me, a dog is a noble creature, truly man's best friend.

I've decided I'm going to plant a blooming tree (leaning toward a dogwood, since it grows well where I live) in the backyard (Ava's backyard), in her memory. I plan to sprinkle Ava's ashes on the root ball, so a part of her becomes a part of the tree. This tree will be a visual reminder of her every day, and every spring when it blooms, it will remind me of the cycle of life.

We buried my sisters Golden Lab up in hte back corner on my property where she can always watch the house and get some shade at the same time....   The grass stays greener where she lays so we know she's on duty.....
