Thanks for the invitation Dan, if I make it to the next season sounds interesting. Sounds like you guys have a pretty long season. Where we hunt the rifle season is only two weeks - 1st Monday in November for a two week period. The season varies widely depending on what wildlife unit you are in and by weapon: rifle, bow, shotgun/muzzleloader. Better hunt hard if you want to be successful!

Rather ominous sounding.

I let 4 nice bucks walk yesterday... last day of the season.  IF they make it through the year, I expect they will be REALLY nice next season.

Just didn't "feel the need", Bud.  I have plenty of meat in the freezers, enjoyed/enjoying watching them.  I have 8 does (including babies) and 2 bucks in my front yard right now.  Looks like the big ones made it through the last day... now they just have to stay on their toes and continue to avoid the poachers.
All good.

A new buck came in tonight... I've not seen him before.  Big fella, big body, so dark he is almost black.  I got to evaluate him for quite a while... easily 22inch spread.  No telling where he's been all this time.  Really fine features.

What I really hate is the big party they throw right after the season ends.. it really seems like they KNOW.  They all gather, dance, sing ballads... I don't mind them celebrating, but the "in your face" is a bit much.

I remember my cousins talking about a big buck with a huge rack. He'd come out and show himself off during the day just before bow season. Then he'd come out at night just before gun season and stand in the road as if he was challenging the farmers driving down the road. Then nobody would see him again until the next summer.
I'm convinced they get calendars from fish and wildlife.
Life's concerns should be about the 120lb pack your trying to get to the top of the mountain, and not the rock in your boot.

I'll probably burn in hell for this.....

Sounds like you got the shufflefoot species of honkytails in your neck of the woods....

Did you enjoy the strut rut?

They looked relaxed... it was OK.  I opened the window and said "I'm still here".  They all ran off (but were back in about 3 minutes... still laughing).
