I finished my 6.8 Xtreme last night but won't shoot it until next week. The upper is an AR15Performance Xtreme mid-length with an optional lapped Lothar barrel. The chamber is SPCII with a 1:11.25 polygonal rifling. The lower is DoubleStar with a Geissele DMR two-stage trigger setup for 3/4.5, MIAD grip, and Vltor EMOD stock.

The scope is a Burris XTR 1-4x24 Tactical in a LaRue LT-104 mount. BUIS are a Troy fli up rear sight and a YHM flip up front sight.

I've never gotten into the "black rifles".  I guess because I wasn't around them. We were issued M16's not too long before I was discharged but that's been it for me.
Sholling,I guess all I can say is that it looks "complicated",in a complimentary kinda of way of course.  Bucky

a wise member of the ot told me one day that "black rifles" are money pits, now you can see why!

Not cheap but no hobby rifle is. I've got Ruger 10/22s with $1,000 into them not counting the scope. This one wasn't cheap. About $1500 not counting the scope. But the Geissele triggers are high buck and I could have saved $280 right there.

all that really matters though is that you are happy with the end results, and im willing to guess that you had a huge sh*t eating grin going on when the last piece was added to the rifle.  the cost is of little consequence, because you did it your way to full fill a need.

Rifles are a whole lot less expensive than women. They'll put that much of your money into shoes. I've gone nuts with black rifles this year. Between finally being allowed to own them after 20 years, and fear of new federal bans. I'm all set now. I have my Custom 6.8, my Bravo Company 5.56, and a Stag that I bought to tide me over while waiting on the good stuff. Now I'll probably sell the Stag because I'm out of room in my safes and it never lit my fire.

I am in line for a 6.8 upper to be used primarily for hog hunting (nice to have 25 on tap rather than 10 with a bolt-run between shots.)

Nice setup, let us know how it shoots.

Also, what was the lead time for the upper?  They said I'd have mine by August (ordered in mid-June) while everyone else is quoting 6 months.

Lead times have gotten better at AR15 Performance. I waited 7 months but 3 of that was the Lothar barrel. here is what he has to say about extimated waits on his two most popular products "Only other factor is availability the Recon may be caught up and available in July, there are a huge number of back orders for the XT and it could be late Aug or even Sept before we get caught up." The Recon is the more expensive version. I was just informed by the builder that I bought a Recon and not the less expensive Xtreme. Big Grin

What you want to make sure of is that you buy an upper with a SPCII chamber and a 1:11 twist barrel. The original SAAMI barrel and 1:10 twist barrels were mistakes and almost everyone is dropping them.

yep, good stuff
mine shipped yesterday
woo hoo!
yes, Harrison is the man when it comes to the 6.8

I have been using the Barnes 110g tipped TSX out of my 18" but now they are getting close to 3200 fps out of the 85g Barnes out of the 16" barrel
that's zipping along and is reportedely punching through big hogs at any angle

will post pics of mine
ARs are fun, like legos for big boys!

So far I've just played around with the scope but I like it for its versatility. But I haven't tried to hit anything with it yet and that's a big but!

I bought 600rds of Silver State Armory 110gr Sierra Pro Hunter before they ran out. They don't expect another shipment of bullets from Sierra before October. DocGKR really likes this round and I have a lot of respect for Doc's opinions. Doc is a big fan of the 6.8 SPC.
"Sierra 110 gr Pro Hunter JSP -- This is a good general purpose bullet for law enforcement use and offers acceptable performance against glass and other intermediate barriers. It is also a great hunting load for medium size game. Very accurate bullet, works great with heart/lung shots on deer".
I'm not hearing great things about the pricey Barnes 110gr but they have it in stock. Hunters were complaining about T&Ts with deer. It looks like they do have brass if you can find primers and bullets.

man, I have killed several deer and hogs with the tipped TSX 110g (handloads)
getting close to 2800 FPS out of the 18" barrel and everything has been text book perfect performance, caliber sized entry wound, fist sized cavity under the hide and a 1" hole out the other side...
couldn't ask for more

having said that, they are PRICEY
I wouldn't think twice about a deer or a hog with decent shot placement and the 110g prohunters.. I would be have more confidence in the Barnes if you hit the shoulder of a big hog at 30 yards...  the prohunters may come apart, maybe, maybe not

the 85g barnes are getting 3200 FPS out of the 16" barrel, that's 243 speed out of a 24" barrel..  HTR down in Goliad has killed a TON of hogs with his 6.8 and is swearing by these 85g barnes, we all wish they would make it in a tipped version though...

I've got a nice assortment of ammo coming, we'll see what mine likes.

I think mine is the Recon (16) with polygonal rifling, that should help with any possible pressure issues, though, as I understand it now, those are not a problem for the 6.8 x43s.
