I've put together my wishlist for several of my firearms, and I was hoping the good folks here could tell me if, and if so, where, I've gone of track.  Below is my current list of scopes that I have rank-ordered for my various firearms.  I'm not married to any of them, except the 5-20x SS that I can't afford, and missed the discount on because my bosses suck.  Anyhow, here goes.  The only thing I ask is, if you say I'm crazy for having a scope listed in the mix, understand that I've gone from max budget to reasonable budget.  The SS 5-20x is the most I can forseeably justify.  Thanks.

The 300WM is a hunting rifle? or a heavy barrel tactical set-up?

What is the typical use?

Ditto for the 22WMR and 41mag: what is teh typical use? plinking? hunting? typical distances?

Hunting for all setups.  My tactical days are in my long past.  Budget top end is the SS SWFA 5-20x50 for that rifle.  The top scope in each of the others would be around my top-end for each respective weapon. So, no more than around $1500 for the 300 Win Mag, ~$500 for the .41, ~$300 for the .22WMR.

300WM = Rem 700 BDL
.22WMR = CZ 452 Lux

Thanks.

This is somewhat outside my field of expertise, but 5-20x50 may be a bit much for most hunting.  It is a spectacular scope and I have one on my 338Lapua, but wouldn't it be a bit too big fro what you want there?  Also, do you want a FFP reticle in this scope? or SFP?

If you are OK with SFP, I would strongly encourage you to take a look at this scope:

I have been testing one of these for a bit now, and I am very impressed.

If you would prefer FFP reticle and are OK with a large scope, then the 5-20x50 SS is an excellent choice.

For the 22WMR, the 6x42 SS is ultimately the most versatile choice, but the RR 3-9x32 is not slouch either.  It does have a busy reticle, so you have to decide what works best for you.

For pistol and scout scopes, personally, I am a fan of lower magnification models.  However, your Nikon EER should work all right on the revolver.

For the 376 Steyr (I assume you have a scout rifle in 376 Steyr), consider the new Leupold VX-R scout scope:
It is probably the best option I can think of.

I agree, the SS 5-20 is a great scope, but not ideally suited to a hunting rifle.  5X is allot of magnification on the bottom end.

I haven't used the Leica hunters but I hear very good things.  There is a used Leica 3.5-14 on the sample list:

There are also a few Swaros on the Sample List.

For your budget, there are a few options, the SS is definitely one of them, but it wouldn't be my first choice, given the application.

Thanks ILya and Rancid.  Actually, the Steyr is in my avatar.  It's on my encore, and it's 15 7/8" with the integral brake.  It's FUN to shoot.  Haven't hunted with it yet.  With that knowledge, does your choice change?  Thanks again.
