I'm pretty new to optics in general, and in fact, I've used only iron sights for my entire life. I have a pretty decent sized collection, though, and I feel like it's time I start decking some of my babies out with nice optics and other tactical accessories. :)

My first project is going to be my AR (16" barrel) which I've ordered a DPMS tri-rail upper for. But now, I need to equip that tri-rail upper with some new toys as well!

I have a pretty simple question: Are there any digital sights, such as EOTech or Trijicon, that come with multiple reticles? My only concern is that if I'm paying $1000 or more for a sight, I would like the ability to switch things up every now and then. If they don't come with more than one, is it possible to load more reticles on it or replace the one that's already on there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried Googling some of this stuff, but I can't find much. I've really had my eye on some of the 6x magnification Trijicon ACOG scopes, but I'd like to know that I can change reticles before I spend $2000 on one. Thanks in advance guys!

AFAIK, there aren't any optical sights built with that capability. Since a reticle is part of the scope's internals design considerations like making the scope air and water tight would prevent that kind of flexibility. It would be cool if there was some way for the reticle to be on the objective - like a screw-on lens. But it would also require some method of aligning the reticle so it isn't canted. Even in the factory some scope makers seem to have trouble with this!

Short answer: none of the high end sights come with the ability to swap out reticles yourself (not sure why you would want to, but that is a separate story).

A lot of the scope makers will do it as a service for a fee.

Some of the red dot sights out there do have an option of a few different reticle pattersns switched via a button press.

Also, a electronic scope like the defunct Elcan Digital Hunter gives you that option.

Completely OT:

Some of the old german Pecar scopes was constructed so that you could swap reticles, it was a neat feature that sadly died when Pecar went bottom-up.

Those reticles are hard to find these days and pricey, I regret I sold my extra german no 4 at a bargain price but I really only needed one.....
