New member this morning. Found this forum quite by accident while surfing the web and obviously I have a question. Please help, anybody.

Ready to buy a new Model 1885 in 300 WSM with intention of using Leupold QR series bases and rings only to find that these are not available!

Alternate could be the WQRS rings that Leupold offers with weaver style base but my catalogue charts and internet queries haven't located any possibilities yet.

Prime interest in the quick release line is the ability to dismount/remount scope for cleaning or scope change!

Looking for some leads.

Also be interested in comments about rifle or caliber choice.

Remotely possible for elk hunting but more likely long range varmint and deer hunting.

Walk Softly, But Don't Forget That Big Stick!

Fellas, try posting this question on the Rifle Scope Forum.

More traffic over there.

jaztym - I would be interested in hearing how your resolved your scope mounting issue on your 1885 High Wall.  I recently acquired an 1885 High Wall in .325 WSm and am having a devil of a time finding a scope mount that I don't have to crank the reticle elevation to the maximum to get on target.

After having tried Warne, Dednutz, and S&K bases (which, BTW, all claim to fit the 1885 High Wall) with various shims and Burris rings with PosAlign offset inserts, I find my total amount of offset to keep the reticle centered in the scope is 0.070".  That pretty much leaves me with lots of shimming or little-to-no reticle elevation adjustment with the reticel way-off the optical axis.

I am thinking my best option is to have a Weaver single piece rail fitted to the barrel with the appropriate amount of slope machined into it.

Here is an example of one mount set-up that i have tried.  You can see the three 0.010" shims I used under the front base, and how the scope sets crooked in the rings because of the 0.020" PosAlign inserts in each.
