I have my win model 70 featherweight.  Bushy Elite 4200 3-9-40

I have used warne heavy duty mounts in the past.  Was thinking luey this time and lighter

1 piece or 2 piece base?  Regular or premium type i do not know.

Dovetail?  steel, or other?

Any feedback appreciated.  Be specific if possible, cause I really have little knowledge in this area.

thank you.

I have had fairly good luck with Leupold mounts however I always tend to worry that the standard mount with the two big windage screws will not remain in a constant positon so my vote is for the dual dovetail Leupold rings and bases.

PB, don't know what caliber your Featherweight is but mine is in .270Win with a 3-10x40 Weaver Grand Slam mounted in Leupolds Rifleman Series. I used their vertical split rings with the appropriate bases and have had NO problems at all plus it's the lightest set up I've tried.

On all my Winchesters I have the Warne 2 piece steel bases and the QD rings.  I have found on the long actions, you wuold need an extended base or a really long eye relief scope in order to not crawl up the stock to see through the scope.

Maybe it's just me...

Urimaginaryfrnd, I went to order and it seems when I choose "silver" for the model 70, they are different shape than the ones you chose.  Both say model 70?  I have a stainless barrel and was going to use silver mounts and black rings.  Sounds good?  Is my Featherweight, the staright Model 70 mounts vs pre 64 whatever it says?  Check out the two, and please advise.  I called SWFA, and they are closed.  Thanks for the feedback.  The dual dovetail look and seem awesome and want to go with your recomendation.

If the scope is matte black I usually go with matte black rings and base. If I were to put a silver scope on a stainless gun I would use silver rings and base. In any case I would call SWFA and ask them which rings and base fit your rifle before ordering as there is nothing more frustrating than getting a base that doesnt fit or rings that are too low for a particular scope and then having to wait for another part when you have everything else in hand.  Also it allows you to ask them to check availability so you know that it is in stock.

As far as one piece or two piece bases - given a choice I prefer one piece but you dont always have a choice.

Thanks, I'll call on Monday.  I got burnt two weeks ago ordering a shooting matt online.  Only to get an email saying out of stock for 10 days, and still not word yet.  Total BS.  There were 20 places on the web selling Blackhawk matts and I chose www.outofstock.com.  Good advise to call and check.
