I just mounted my Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 with "high" TPS rings on a Sig 556 Classic. The front sight which is a post and guard around it (like the HK91 type front sight) is directly in line with the center of the scope yet it is hardly visible through the scope. I think that I would have to use a extra, extra high mount not to have the scope in line with the front sight and that would be rediculously high. The objective bell is a little over 1/4" above the rail and all looks good but am I missing something here.
Will the set-up the way it is block any light?
Since I have not shot the rifle yet do you think I will notice the sight on the range?

It does block the image some, but the scope will mostly focus around/beyond it and you will just get a slight darkness in the scope. It will be more noticeable at low mags. I had a AR with a standard front sight and a 4x IOR on it. I could always see a slight black blur in the image, but for the most part the optic would focus past the sight so it was not much of a hindrance. It still bothered me though so I put a fold down sight on it instead.
Lots of people run ACOGs with the standard front sight. If it does not bother you, then you should be to go. If it does I would just get a fold down sight for it. |
