Looking to put a new set up on my Savage 10fp 308, I'll be putting on a SS10x42, with an EGW 20moa base, and Burris Extreme Tactical Rings.....my questions which rings, Low on Med height, the Low rings have a saddle height of 1/4", the the Med rings at 1/2".  Eventually i will get at least one sunshade maybe 2, but i want to keep it as low to the rifle as possible.....any input would be much appreciated.....Thanks guys.....Big O

Low will work for you.

Since the 10Fp comes with at least three different stock options the answer may be more difficult that it would appear as it is a matter of cheekweld and what feels right to you. Probably not what you want to hear but Low should work however depending on the stock and the structure of your face you may be more comfortable with medium rings. I have medium rings on both of my 10FPs.

If low rings don't work for the structure of your face, you may wish to consult a plastic surgeon for corrective measures...Bucky

Lose the 2 0moa base if you want to keep things low.
Then use the Burris 30mm 6 bolt  rings designed for their version of the aimpoint.
A Supersniper will be 1/4 inch above the barrel.  There is no distance at which you can shoot a 308 that will require the use of an elevated/inclined base when employing the SuperSniper scope.  If 120 moa won't do it you can't reach it anyway  :)

Been through two of these and just love them.

Should i stick with a one-piece base or will a 2-piece (Burris Extreme Tactical Base) be fine for precision shooting.....

Either type will work fine, if they are installed properly.  I personally think the one piece base has to be a bit stronger , and straighter, but it probably doesn't really matter in real-world terms.  The two-piece ones allow slightly better access to the loading/ejection port, though.

A one piece base will add strength to the receiver, and also makes a nice funnel for reloads.

Good question and answers since I too have decided to buy a Savage 10 FP and top it with a SS 10x42.

Laying on the counter at store next to a pretty CZ 550 6.5 Swede in walnut and gloss finish makes it a very tough decision.  A Tikka T3 SS in .308 is sweet too and they are loved.

The McMillan stock option is another question.  Is it worth $300 now or should I wait and look at other alternatives?

As far as the 10FP the rifle is also avaiable with a detachable magazine found in the HS Precision stock.  I have had the Choate stock long barrel .223 - (too heavy) and two of the standard stock with 20in barrel one in .223 and one in .308 and they are great rifles but I traded off the .223 because I  really prefer a heavier cartridge. I would really like to find one of the ones with the detachable magazine.
