Look at the Aimpoint QRP Flattop Rail Grabber. It would be perfect for what you're trying to do.

Check it out here

Here is a helpful thread on AR15.com. I haven't had any personal experience with LaRue products but these people seem to have some positive and informative feedback.

I think ARMS makes the best Aimpoint ring and so does the U.S. military.

That ARMS ring looks pretty heavy duty, do you think it would work on a Socum 16 ?( basically a shoter version of the M1A Scout)  thanks

Works like a charm on that weapon.

SOCOM 16 *Shown with optional pre-ban 20 round magazine

This 16" version of the venerable M1A can be an effective close quarters battle rifle or just a great "ranch gun." This rifle has the minimum length barrel for a rifle under federal law. It has a proprietary muzzle break, tritium front sight and a forward-mounted scope base that is ideal for electronic sights or other accessories.

Anougher vote for Larue. They are the best Aimpoint mount I have ever seen.
If at first you don't secede...try..try again.
