I want to know what the best scope would be for my new gun?  I have a Weatherby Vanguard Stainless/Synthetic bolt action 7mm Remington Magnum.  I am looking to spend no more than $500.  I have three ideas listed below, but if you have any other reccomendations of scopes that are comparable please let me know.

Ziess Conquest 3-9X40mm
Leupold VX-III 3.5-10X40mm
Nikon Monarch 2.5-10X40mm

thanks

I tell you the conquest I think is the better choice,I have the 3x9x50 a little more
in price not much.
If you shop around on line you can still fine it for a good price.
also I think the bushnell 4200 2.5x10x50 or the 2.5x10x40 might be ok for you also.
its cheaper then the conquest and almost as good more bang for the buck.
I have a 300 wsm with a muzzle brake and had some trigger work done with the
conquest mounted on top, I shoot about every other day at the range.
knocking something down at 250-350 yards has never been a problem.
bottom line.
what ever you get  its the eye of the beholder the really counts.
there all fine scopes, you might want to check out that bushnell its right up there
with the rest.

I did a head to head comparison with the 3x9 Conquest side by side with a Monarch and 4200 Elite  ,,,other than what I felt was a slightly crisper reticle, I could see no difference in optical clarity between the three at all hours of the day,..For $500- buy 2 4200 Elite 3x9's and be set up twice...or put some dinero back in your pocket..

Welcome to the OT...

Any of the choices listed would be just great, everyone has their own bias toward manufacturers but all these scope listed are very simular in price and quality.

The regulars here probably get tired of me, but go with the Conquest and its 4 inches of eye relief.  IMO its worth the extra $$.

Would it be better to stick with the better glass and scope quality of Zeiss (conquest), or the better lens coatings of the Nikon monarchs?

Does a crispier reticle mean that the Conquest has better anti-reflective coatings?

Absolutely not ..the reticle was just a little darker ( didn't reflect a silver hue in bright sunlight)

Are you hunting in low light?  Consider that aspect when purchasing.

What makes you think that Monarch has better lens coatings?  I do not believe that to be the case.

I've never used a Conquest but I do own some Monarchs and for the money the Monarch is a nice scope with almost 4" of eye relief. I could be wrong but the newer ones seem every so slightly sharper than the older UCCs.

Used to own a Nikon monarch in 6.5-20x44...2005 vintage. Bought it sight unseen and the day it arrived I knew I was never going to use it. Also had my Conquest at that time. No contest -- the Conquest image was much sharper. Let me put it this way, with the Nikon you get a nice bright image but you cannot make out the details at distance like you can with the Conquest.
