Monarch vs. 6500

I have been driving myself crazy comparing specs on $5-700 scopes for about a month now and need some advise. What think I have it narrowed it down to;

Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x50 $700
Nikon Monarch 4-16x50 $500
Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x50 $500

It will be mounted on a xbolt 30/06 used for whitetail and elk at ranges from 100-300 yards.

I don't really need the 16 power but think it would be wonderful for range work, and looking across the 500 yard field I hunt near (knowing my personal limitations of 300-350 w/ the 06). I really wish nikon offered a 3x12 in the bigger 50, but they don't.

Any experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My choice is the 6500 wighout a doubt. Think it is a great scope for the money.  Sharper than the monarchs I have looked through.  I love the versatility of that scope,  I have two 6500s and a zeiss victory and I hate to say it but I grab one  the rifles with the 6500 on it more often than the zeiss, mostly because I like the mildot better than the ffp reticle in the zeiss.

I think the Monarch's are ok scopes to be sure, but the Elite 6500's are a better choice. The Bushy glass is superior (IMO) and the mag range is a great all around choice. The Bushy has Rainguard (which is very functional) while the Nikon does not have any hydrophobic coating to my knowledge. I believe both CS Departments are o.k. but I've had a better "feeling" with the Bushy people. YMMV.

I have never owned a Bushnell 6500 but have owned three Nikon Monarchs, the 2-8, 2.5-10, and the 3-12.  The only Monarch that I still have is the 2-8.  I have owned a couple 4200's and they were equal to the Monarchs except the Rainguard on the 4200 really set them appart.  The 6500 is in another class than the Monarch and I think you would be much happier with the Bushnell.

Agreed! Go with the 6500 and don't look back.
