I already own 2 Nikon Monarch 5-20X44 BDC scopes. I haven´t had a chance to test them in the field but in the backtard they seem to have good optical quality. I have them mounted on my 7mm Rem Mag and my 22-250 Rem.

I just ordered a bunch of Vortex Vipers so i can give them a try. I´m planning to mount a 6.5-20X50 Target Dot on my 22-250 for varmint hunting, but now I´m not sure if it was the correct thing to change my Monarch for a Viper.

What do you guys think??

And how about the turret performance?? Do both track pretty well or will one really outstand the other??

another member on here has done a review on the 50 obj and he said it was very good with tracking and feedback.  I haven't handled that particular scope so i can't say for sure.  maybe Bigdaddy will chime in or anyone else with the high power variable vipers

THIS^^^

I don't know about Nikon CS, other than reputation, and it sucks.
But, I've personal experience with Vortex CS, and it is f'ing fantastic!

I have to agree, Ive had dealings with Vortex on a pair of Binos. I got a Brand new pair in less than a week. Also, before they were sent I received a phone call from them and they went into detail about how they checked them out and found them to be in collimation but they sent me a brand new pair anyway to give me peace of mind without me even asking them to. I was very impressed and the guy was very nice and informative about everything.

I'm also considering the Viper (different mag range), and I like everything I see/hear with exception of the reticle.  In all the pictures, the thicker parts really don't look that thick and I'm concerned about visibility.  Most of the competing models (leups, nikon) offer thicker options.  Are the pictures good representations, or maybe they're thicker in actuality?  Any users have trouble picking up the reticle?

The Vipers honestly track as well as any scope I have ever tested including $2000 and up scopes.  Tracking is something that pretty much all of our scopes do very well, including the entry level CrossFires. With all of us on the Product development,R&D,testing, and engineering team being shooters tracking was one of our top priorities when we first started designing riflescopes and always will be. Tracking is the very first thing I test when first field testing prototypes,pre-production samples,etc.....

If you decide to try one let us know what you think.

Nikon CS is improved the last couple of years. It was a major stink a couple of years ago.

It's been probably 7 or 8 years but my 1 experience with Nikon CS was fantastic.  I had a 'pre' Monarch Nikon 4x12x40AO and noticed that there seemed to be a film on the inside of the objective lens.  I emailed and they said to send it in.  I sent it off on a Fri. and the next Sat. I received a brand new Nikon Monarch 4x12x40AO.  That's my only experience to date.

The reticle (plex) on my 4-12 is very close to that of my Nikon Monarch and may be a bit "blacker" overall. I just got the scope so I haven't had a chance to use it to much yet, just looking through it here at the house. I do wish they would offer a #4 reticle though in offerings up to 12x...

And that's exactly the choices I'm trying to decide between; the Viper or the Monarch.  Maybe the refresh of the line will bring some new reticle offerings, but then I won't be getting a Viper 4x12 for $240, if I wait for the new models, either.  From everything I can gather, $240 for that scope is a deal.

I cant wait till my viper comes in so i can do a comparison to my monarch, there not exactly the same features my nikon is 4-16 where the viper is 6.5-20  but should be fun.

thats what i figure. i was going to get a nikon 2.5-10x42 monarch but with the viper on sale i opted to get the viper.  the 3.5-10 would have beena closer fit but the 6.5-20 is way more tempting
