Trying to dicide Between the 5-20x44 monarch with the BDC and the 4.5-14x44 Conquest with the Rapid z800. Does any body have experience with the BDC and rapid z reticles. Im shooting a 308 and am wondering how they match up? how does the glass match up? ruggedness? All and all how do they compare? Thanks guys!

Conquest is the pick there.

Out of those two, I agree with CT and KB.
The BDC retilce on the Nikon has larger hold holes that could cover your target. The Rapid Z is very fine and can be setup to the ballistics on your .308 through Kenton. Matter of fact if you buy one brand new, Zeiss has a special offer for custom Kenton turrets for only $25.00 instead of $85.00 I believe. I will have to double check that in the morning.

Are you aware that the Z800 is set for 300wm & short? The Z1000  is for .308 if you want to take full advantage of Zeiss BDC........

You can work out the z800 for a .308.  Just follow the Zeiss calculator directions.  The Z1000 was designed with the .308 in mind, however, as stickbow mentioned.

All good info here, and I agree with all of it. I happen to own EXACTLY both of those scopes.......And I'll still take the Conquest hands down. I am shooting a .300 mag that is probably better suited to the rapid z 800 than the .308, but the retical is great, and can be matched you your .308 via zeiss's rapid-z calculator, as Bitterroot said. The only advantage I see to the Monarch is the interchangable turret system, which I used to put target turrets on mine for longer ranges, because I am not as big of fan of the bdc, as I am the Rapid-Z. What I plan to do is get my Conquest converted to target turrets, and have the best of both worlds. And maybe a set of Kenton turrets added, just as icing on the cake.

I had a Kenton made for my Z800 & it works great. My scope rides a R5 in .308 & being I reload the Kentons are the way to go,they are almost idiot proof, which is right up my alleyWhacko.

I would highly recommend that Conquest. That being said, I have a couple of Monarchs because I got them at a price that was hard to pass up and they are decent, and I don't currently have an Conquests, but having looked through both of them the Conquest is much better glass wise and if I was paying normal prices the Conquest is a much better option imo.

Could also look at

Minox ZA5 3-15x50 BDC $589
Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44 Dead-Hold BDC $460
Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50 Long Range with BDC for $540
Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 with illuminated MOA or MIL reticle for $700
Zeiss Conquest is $825 after mail-in rebate

Would bet the Vortex options are a little more rugged and the company would provide the quickest, care-free service if ever needed.

If set on a Conquest, and you would ever want to dial the elevation for more precision at long range, you would need the 4.5-14x50 that is $875 after mail-in rebate.

I have a Conquest in the exact model you are looking at.  Just sent it back to Zeiss today to get it retrofitted for a Kenton Turrent.  Thought I would like the Rapid Z 800, but after shooting and reading, decided to go with the Kenton.  I shoot a 7MM RUM, and sent them all the info for the round I will be shooting and they made a custom turrent for my rifle and ammo.  Save the extra and just get the Z-Plex and not the Rapid-Z and get with Kenton.

Yes I am aware that the Z800 is for the .300, but I was awarded a chance for an unbeatable price from a local shop that I couldn't turn down. They dont carry the conquest with the Z1000.
