I have used a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5X-20X 50mm for the last 9 years or so and it has given me great service and works well in the low light conditions routinely ecountered at the range I belong to.

I now have added another rifle and want to find something that will provide performance in the class as the Vari-X III.

I have read that the old Monarch with the 44mm was every bit as good or better. And now they have the new Monarch 6X-24X 50mm , side parallax. This scope will not be much more than what I paid for the Vari-X III back in the 90's.

Where are the current Monarchs manufactured? I had read where the side parallax was a click adjustable system , will this be precise enough to dial out all parallax. Will mostly be used at 100 - 200 yards.

Anyone have firsthand experience with the new 50mm Monarch 6-24X?  I am going with a target dot. Had one installed in my Vari-X III and love it.

I bought a Monarch UCC 6.5-20 x 44 AO from SWFA in '07.  It is the dual illuminated (red or green) MilDot reticle.  The red, even at low setting, is kinda overpowering, however, I do like the green....let's you pick up the crosshairs against a darkening tree line.  I like the optics, nice.  Thought I'd add that this one is marked "Made in Japan".

It is a pleasure to deal with the nice, helpful folks at SWFA.  4 of the last 5 scopes I've bought have been purchased here.  The lone exception being a Pride & Fowler 3-9x32 with the windage and elevation marks for .22WMR (this is the technology now licensed to Zeiss).

You'll like the Monarch, methinks.

Love the signature line, "CHUNKY DUNK" LOL.
You will like the Nikons, everything I've heard is very positive about them.

I just bought my first Nikon Monarch with the BDC reticle.  Excellent scope- I will buy more Nikons in the future.    I also have the VX-III 6.5-20, you won't be dissapointed in the comparison.

An update on this topic, since I have a new Monarch in my clutches now.  Devil

My 4-16x Monarch with a BDC reticle.

It says "Made in the Philippines" on the bottom.

Also, after having owned the aforementioned old 6.5-20x44mm illuminated Mil Dot and comparing it with the new ones, I can now confidently state that the new Monarchs are definitely worth taking a look at...or through rather. Wink

Sorry, haven't seen the 6-24x yet, Brother.
