Well my sister called me late last night to tell me Mom had gone in to have a small melanoma removed from the bridge of her nose.  It was supposed to be a 1.5hrs start to finish procedure then home.

Well 8 hours later she finally got to head home.  The Melanoma had tested positive and it took 5 attempts to get it all.  She ended up with a fairly large hole in her nose and the only way to cover it was to do a facelift.  She ended up leaving with 90 stitches all over her face swelling and bruising, two black eyes and alot of pain.  Thank God her friend insisted on taking her cause she would have never made it home.  Mom is very sensitive to medications.  They gave her darvocets and she was giggling with I talked to her and quite loopy.  It was hard not to laugh at her behavior.  Her friends took turns coming over today to watch her and my older sister is coming over from Pensacola tonight to stay a couple of days.  She is 78 and fairly healthy but this was hard on her.  I actually think this was a blessing in disguise because today is my younger brothers birthday.  He was her youngest and was killed in an auto accident 18years ago at 24.  She is always melancholy on his Birthday and this was a huge distraction from that.

She seems to be in good spirits but I would appreciate prayer or two for her.  She still has a bunch of great grandmothering to do!

Thanks for letting me vent guys, this got to me more than I realized!

Bud

Thanks everybody, I apprecaite the prayers and wellwishes!

AJ your right, Moms are tough...they have to be to put up with all the crap we feed them over a lifetime.  Problem with my mom is, she is so busy taking care of EVERYBODY else that she forgets to take care of herself!  Like a doctor, she tends to be a terrible patient!

It should be interesting at her house for the next couple of days.  My older sister (The Iron Fist) arrived last night to tend to her.  I am betting I will get a few dozen phone calls in the next couple of days! Whacko

Thanks again for your support everybody!

Bud

Well, I hope your Mom is doing better today.  I lost my Mom a couple of years ago.  She was 83.  Hospital visits are hard on the old folks.

Bud, I hope your mom makes a speedy recovery!  She will be in my prayers.

Moms are special.  My mother passed away unexpectedly in 2001, and I still haven't fully recovered from that.  I miss her so much, and wish I had fully told her how much she meant to me before she died.

Thanks guys!  It is definitely appreciated!

Ted I am sorry to find that out!  I hope you hadn't had any bad works as a last communication!  My son's, best friend's, grandfather (the one who raised him) just died last week, unexpectedly too.  The funeral was Monday.  Luckily Dustin was home from college and could be with Freddy through it all.  Freddy took it pretty hard as they were very close.

Mom's not as tough as she once was so we all keep a eye on her.  She is fiercely independent and likes living alone so it isn't easy.  She has childhood friends close too her where she lives so there are plenty of watchful eyes!

Again thanks for everybodies thoughts and prayers!  The are very much appreciated!

Bud

She should be feeling better by now. Glad to hear they were able to catch the cancer. Just think with the face lift and her looking 20 years younger you will have to keep her on a leash. She will be a Cougar on the prowl. Much worse than a teenager.Shocked

Bud, my prayers are with you and your family.

On another note, I hope that this signals you (and your sister) to have a thorough exam.  Melanoma and basal cell carcinoma (both sun related) are nothing to play with.

Thanks again everyone, I talked to her Friday night and some of the swelling has gone down.  She has changed the bandages an seen the extent of the surgery.  Thats scared her a little.  She is worried about the repair to her nose healing or dying.  It is still too early to tell what the effects of the facelift will be.  However at 78 and being an old fashion puritan type I don't think we have to worry about her going on the rampage.

Being that we all were born and raised in Florida and spending so much time at teh beach and in the sun we all are regularly check for skin irregularities.  This is mom's 5th one checked but 1st one tested positive for cancer.
