Hello, Sorry if I keep asking about this but i still just don't understand most of it. I don't know if this is right but if its not would you explain please, with a 1/4 click scope it would take 16 clicks for 400yrds and 20 clicks for 500 correct? The reason I'm asking is because on "Long Range Simulator 2" I don't know if your familiar with it but it says 420 yards would be 32 clicks and 8 MOA which is driving me nuts because I can't determine which one is correct If "Long Range Simulator 2" is correct would someone please explain this? I just have one more question Is it possible to measure an object using a mil-dot scope without knowing how big the target is If so could you please explain. I know this is asking a lot but I've been at this along time by myself and people of this board trying to figure this out and I'm just not getting a clear picture yet, but if someone could push me in the right direction or be able to answer some of these questions I'd really appreciate it Thank you so much!

If starting with 100 yd =o then 200 is 2, etc. 400 is 4 MOA if 4 clicks equal 1moa --4 moa is 4x4 or 16. The other people are possibly using a different 0. What is confusing is-- this concept is a radial system assuming straight lines which no bullet trajectory follows (it's progressive). like the hand on a clock with a 1 inch dial measuring 2,3,4 inch out.  No --any rangiing reticle (mil-dot is just one type)  uses a triangulation method for distance determination, and some known measurement ---Laser RF use a clock and frequency.

Just got it --- the 32 clicks 420 yrds and 8 MOA are talking about a specfic curve  ( the trajectory of a load). 8 MOA is about right for a 168 gr load at that distance and 20 mOA for 900 yds. This same curve could be used for say a 22-250 with a 50 gr bullet except it would be shoot at 3800 fps instead of 2700 fps, the difference in these factors and the BC give the same trajectory curve.   This is the basis of the BAS  in Leo's rangefinders.
