Will a spotting scope with a larger objective lens "work better" in a heavy mirage than one with a smaller lens, all else being equal?

Thanks,
BP

If by mirage you mean reduced visibility and distortions caused by earth heating and radiating heat, no. It does not matter what scope or binoculars you use. The only solution to that is to do whatever you're doing with the scope in the morning, before the sun is  high and the earth heats enough to start radiating.

If you can get a little higher off the ground that tends to help.

I have found that the effects of mirage seem to be mitigated by using lower magnification.

Correct, I believe the military used fixed 10x power scopes for years, and that was one of the reasons for their choice. Cant shoot anything if you cant see it through the mirage.
