How do the Minox binoculars compare to the top Zeiss,Swaro, or Leica Ultravids?  I see that Minox has a flouride glass model in 10x58.  Is the flouride glass considerably better?

Minox is a step below the big boys.  That is not to say they are not very good.  I like them a lot and they give great performance for the money, but they are essentially a bargain priced Leica.  Look at Minox and Kahles as very similar quality.  As far as the ED glass goes, it can make a difference.  The "Outdorsman"  did a comparison of the Minox ED binos with the same size but non-ED binos from a number of competitiors.  The conclusion was that under good field conditions, there was no difference in view.  But, under poor, hazy field conditions, there was a slightly noticeable difference in favor of the ED glass Minox.  I think if you are hunting somewhere with a lot of wide open space, then the Minox ED might be a good choice.  Just remember that ED glass adds weight that you will be carrying around.  Personally, I think if you are looking in the 10X range, I would stick with a 10x42 which will handle 99% of your needs at a great price.  Now if you are stepping up to a 15X, I would get the ED and you can justify the extra weight because you essentially have a low power spotting scope.
