what would be the advantage of getting a ZA5 2-10x40 over a ZA3 3-9x40?  im looking for a plinking scope for my swiss K31, and was interested in the BDC version of both scopes.  another question, do they both have an etched reticle?  im pretty new to scopes and have just started reading about them, and have also looked into the zeiss conquest 3-9x40.  all things being equal, and being able to get a discount on the minox, would that still fair well against the capability of the zeiss?

Thanks.

I have a ZA3 (3-9X40). Great scope. Right on par with a conquest optically.

The recticles aren't etched.

The Mino-Plex isn't as bold as the Z-Plex.

I'm about to get rid of one of my ZA3's i have on a 45-70. Just too much scope for the gun (100 yards or less). Shoot me a message if you are interested. I will make you a great deal on it with butler creek caps.

The only advantage of the ZA5 is it has a 5X erector where as the ZA3 has a 3X erector.

3X3 erector =9

2X5 erector = 10

The 2-10 will have a wider field of view, and a little more magnification.

The glass in the two is the same. The only diff is the wider magnification of the ZA5.

+1 and I think the glass trumps the conquest.  The fit and feel of the swaro's are outstanding.

Jeff, I don't think he was refering to the Z5 Swaro, which I agree with you as to the fit & feel[I own the 3.5-18x44 BRX].The Minox Z5 4-20x50 also has a side parralex!

I actually just got a reply from Minox regarding their scopes, and it appears that their reticles in their riflescopes are in fact etched.  I still have not decided whether the ZA3 or the ZA5 would suit me best.   I am however leaning with the ZA3 as that will leave me some extra cash for scope rings to mount the scope for my K31.  I am also leaning towards the BDC reticle out of interest and experimentation.  The scope will be mostly used for some target shooting with no plans for hunting as of yet.
