Looking for feedback on what the better scope is for the money.  It will be going on a flat shooting Prairie Dog/Coyote gun, shooting anywhere from fenceline to long, long range - West River Dakota's style.

The 3 scopes are Nikon Monarch 5-20x44, Minox ZA5 4-20x50, and Sightron SII 6-24x42.  I can pick any of these 3 up within $60, so price or value is not to be a selection criteria for these three.  However, price would be a comparison for any of these three vs. Pentax GS 30 6-24x50 or Weaver 40/44 6.5-20x44.  If the Pentax or Weaver are comparable as far as quality than value/price would definitely be considered since these 2 would be far less expensive.

I would appreciate any feedback from those who have actually used any of these scopes.
thanks.

I own the Monarch 5-20X. Don't touch that scope with a ten-foot pole. Glass makes BSA look like Swaro by comparison. I also have the excellent Sightron SII Big Sky (4-16X); the SII frankly isn't the same level of glass, so I'd get a superior Weaver Grand Slam in that SII price range instead. The Minox would be the best choice of your 3 by far: the ones I checked out had excellent glass, but there appears to be some problems with mechanicals and QC according to threads here and on other forums.

Really, the Monarch is junk ???  Wow, I have the older Monarch in 3-9x40, and I think it has good glass.  I would have thought the newer ones would be OK.   Is yours the older or newer Monarch?

Thanks for the input.

Out of your options, Minox is probably your best bet if you can live with limited adjustment range.  Sightron S2 Big Sky is also a very nice scope.  I have a 6-24x42 version.

I am not a fan of the current generation Monarch either.

Thanks ILya.

What about the the regular SII not the Big Sky, how do you rate that?

Also, I noticed you tested the Minox ZA3 and I have read the glass is excellent on these scopes but maybe there is some durability or other issues?  I also seen your pictures showing the view through the 3 scopes and and noted the FOV is small, that is a little concerning.

Thanks Wes.  One problem, although I'm sure all of those are fine scopes I would like to be around $450 max.  That was one reason I was thinking about the Minox and Nikon - sample list.

Also, I would like a 20 power scope on the top mag., as prairie dogs look real small at 400+ yds.   Sure are fun to shoot at though at that range.  Which most of your choices would probably be fine as far as magnification goes - just a little pricey.

Thanks for the feedback.
