Anyone has used or seen this scope? I am trying to convince myself that I need a spotting scope for my shooting range sessions. It seems to be a true homerun piece of equipment.

Though I wont shoot groups past 2-300yds I will likely used it for working up loads at 200yds or so (the range has crappy spotters on the 100yd lines and my riflescope shows the hits better).
It will be 7mm holes at 200yd for now, maybe a ladder test at 300yd every now and then, no need for backpacking abilities or long hikes.

How does it compare to other scopes in its price range and with the smaller MD50? both non ED/HD versions. I assume that at the same price a "cheaper" scope with bigger objective will not be more useful for my puposes, right?

Thanks!

Thanks for the link... it appears to be a review for the compact MD50 version, not the larger MD62, but a very interesting read!

i have seen the MD62ED, and I thought it was a pretty nice scope.  I am sure both 62mm models outperform the little MD50.

The Pentax 65ED is in that price range though, and it is a good scope that has the flexibility to use a wide range of astronomical eyepieces.

If you aren't backpacking the spotter, I would look into a good 80mm model.  You just can't beat a big objective for really squeezing out the best performance.

Yes the 80MM scopes really do take the performence up quite a notch, but the OP has to decide if it is worth the extra weight and bulk. Many times it isn't, other times it is.

When you say "has the flexibility to use a wide range of astronomical eyepieces.

Does that mean that you could use different brands of eye pieces in this scope (ie. swaro)?

I have often wondered how that might work.  Can one use different brand eye pieces in spotting scopes that have removable eye pieces.  Are they universal?  or are they unique to each brand (proprietary)?
