I'm interested in the Minox HG Aspherical line of binoculars, either 8x or 10x, with the 10x available for about $580. How do the HGs compare to others around that pricing? Anything better for the money or slightly more? I have a pair of 7x42 SLCs about 10-15 years old that I love, but they are heavy. Would a new pair of the HGs be comparable at all, or possibly better? ZR ED2s?

that is a really good price for the Minox HG's if I recall when I looked at a pair about a year and half maybe two years ago they were around $900.
How are they? Well I don't think they are quite as nice as the Alpha glass (Zeiss, Swarovski, Leica or Nikon Premier). But those at the time I looked at them were still around $400 more.
When I looked at them I thought they were nicer then Kahles, Leupold Golden Ring which were in the same price range at the time.
I thought the Mixox HG were nice glass. I found the focus wheel to be a bit stiff and agressive checkering but that could also be a good thing in wet conditions. I would say they were just abou the same as my friends Pentax Sp's at the time.
For $500 bucks I would say yeah they are nice glass and that sounds like a good buy.

I just shot a couple deer while hunting with my new HG 8x binocs.
I am in King County, you can look through mine.. when I get back from shooting some more deer. I really like the Minox. My only complaint would be that my fingers get cold when looking through them. |

I have owned Minox HG 8.5x52 BR Made in A very bright, contrast image with no color bias whatsoever, they also have excellent edge sharpness. The Minox HG 8.5x52 BR have a much narrower field of view than most similar models. |

Minox HG line is very light; have X33, X43 and X52? in HG series. They are light and a pleasure to hand hold an image; and the eye relief is outstanding, too, for corrective lens users.
The magnesium chassis is a winner. |

Try Wells Lamont gloves which are insulated with 150 gram Thinsulate insulation. Edited by Bird Watcher - January/07/2012 at 15:11 |
